just wondering how big is there of a difference in difficulty between the 200's courses and 300's courses ? thinking of taking 376 sci-fi the next time they offer it to fulfill one of my ger's but don't know if I should take a 200 instead since those are allowed. if theres not much of a difference i'd take 376 since it seems like the only ones thats intersting. thanks

Unlike other departments, English doesn't get harder as you get to higher level classes. I doubt you'll get into 376.. it fills up within a few days of registration opening.
Take intro to creative writing - 287. It's easy and fun.
Or take 446 - Chaucer. All you do is read the Canterbury Tales, which I HOPE you read in HS, b/c then it's a breeze.

^That's retarded. 200 level courses are simple survey classes. You read and listen then regurgitate whatever your prof said in test or essay form. Higher level stuff will force you to think much more critically and independently. It's not difficult if you have a mind of for that sort of thing, but it's way different than any basic literary canon class. I would also recommend 287. On the other hand, if you're one of those nerdy engineering kids that is going to write in fucking dragon cliches the whole time, please don't sign up. We have to suffer through that shit in our fiction classes enough as is.

I took 8 Eng classes in undergrad. As one would expect, the 200 level courses were a little easier than the 300 level courses in my experience. I'd recommend just take whatever class interests you the most and you'll do fine, regardless of the course level. Being interested in and engaged by the subject matter will have a far greater outcome on your grade than the difference in course levels will.

what if when I am a senior with like 100 credit hours? I think I would have a good chance then...also I am not sure if he is ever going to teach it again because he is not teaching this fall so maybe not even next fall. has anyone taken it?

for my 200 requirement which needs to fill Literature II group, I am thinking of ENG 246 The Lit of the Holocaust if I can't get into 376, which the grade dist shows 30 As and 4 Bs

btw I Just finished reading Canterbury Tales for my ENG 251 class major brit writers.

When you're a senior, fine. But don't wait until then just to cram it in at the end...then you don't care and you're eating up space for English majors.
And yes, he'll teach it. He doesn't teach it every year.
Lit of the Holocaust is most likely filled with English majors, so yea, grade distribution will be mostly As and Bs -- the ones who find it hard will drop.

catzor True. I have an English degree so for me the whole thing was a breeze (do not get an English degree.). But there are no weed-out classes in English, and you can pretty easily take any level of course whenever you want.
And to echo what you said -- don't fuck up a writing class with your nerdy shit.

why is it likely filled with eng majors? it is one of the courses that people can take to fulfill graduation requirements. i looked at the syllabus for lit of holocaust and there are no tests, just a 5 pg paper, and 2 page papers due every 2 weeks, along with an attendance grade, that is not difficult at all b/c there are no tests or final. how is that only english majors would take it? also it is a new teacher and obviously he grades easier

Because that is the kind of course an English literature major would do anything to get into. Your basic engineer isn't gonna want to write papers! Are you kidding me with this shit?
There are TONS of courses across the board that people "can" take to fulfill grad reqs. Doesn't mean they'll get in -- you know, because people actually IN those majors need fun and interesting classes, too.
