I have always been a huge Kevin Smith fan and although I know most people on this site probably hate him since after Clerks I have remained a pretty big fan of his, not just his movies but just what he represents in general. I dont know if anybody has even given this movie any thought (the only reason I am is because of Kevin Smith) but the red band trailer for this is pretty fuckin hilarious. It's his first movie he is directing with actually writing the script, so that could turn out to be a mess but I still hold out faith for him, yes even after Jersey Girl and Clerks 2.

None of the mainstream advertising for this film includes the words "Kevin Smith."

That could be good or bad.

However, the red band trailer IS very funny.

Plus, Rashida Jones .

i think you mean "without actually writing the script".

It's definitely not a "Kevin Smith movie" and he's made that plenty clear through twitter and other means.

So Tracy Morgan... is he basically just himself now in every role? I couldn't make a distinction between him in these trailers and him on 30 Rock.

This does look like it might be OK though on the trailer. Probably won't see it in a theater though.

Also, I'm in the minority but I'm not a huge fan of Rashida Jones and her fivehead.

^^^^^^I was wondering about this too. Why wouldn't they at least say "directed by Kevin Smith". I dont think that it would turn anybody off and would at least garner some more attention. I guess anybody who likes his movies already know this is coming out and he directed it.


^^^^Yeah, that was a typo for sure. He has definitely made it clear that this isn't "his movie". But i still think with him behind the camera it automatically has some laughs in it.

^i think, like you said, anyone in the view-askewniverse that follows kevin smith knows that he's directing this movie. So really, adding his name to a preview probably wouldn't help near as much. But i know that there are tons of people out there who hate kevin smith movies and seeing "Directed by Kevin Smith" may automatically assume it has his weird brand of humor and characters thus turning more people away from the movie than towards it.

^yeah I guess thinking about what you said in your post that actually does make sense. I know plenty of people who hate Kevin Smith, and most have not even seen his movies, especially the great ones.

^^^^^I dont know what it is about Tracy Morgan but he doesnt bother me that much. I dont watch 30 rock and really have not watched most of what he has done, so maybe that is why he doesnt bother me. Something about his joke delivery just cracks me up sometimes though.

his pictures have never looked pretty and that is something he admits, this is true. but i dont think anybody goes into his films expecting to see American Beauty. I know i personally go for his dialogue (as most do I think) and the performances he can get out of his actors in his films.
