I wouldn't say he's garbage, but he doesn't pass the All-American look test. I've only seen him play once -- and that was on TV -- but he reminded me of a slightly better version of Marques Johnson. He certainly doesn't fit the Felton/Lawson mold.

I remember always thinking "How the fuck did Scooter make the AA team?". Obviously he finally came on his senior year and actually developed into a good 3 pt threat, but I was disappointed that he did not do more during his time here (NC State shit I guess).

And Marshall isn't unanimously rated very high for no reason... I highly doubt he sucks and it's only because he is going to UNC.

From what I remember/have read about Marshall, he started on the Boo Williams AAU team after his freshman year, played pretty well in a tournament, and shot way up the recruiting rankings (ranked top-5 during sophomore season). He didn't score much, but did distribute the ball pretty well (his forte).

This ranking landing him an offer from UNC during his sophomore year. He commits, but then his game never really improves (again from what I've heard). His high school team's losing record seems to reflect this. But because of his early ranking, and because he's committed to UNC, he never falls that much in the rankings.

Like I said, I've only seen Marshall play once, but I was thoroughly unimpressed. I went back and looked up his stats for that game, and I was right -- he had 1 assist and 7 turnovers. He's not explosive, not fast, and doesn't shoot well. He does seem crafty, and I hear he's a great passer, but I didn't see it. He really didn't standout to me in the least.

That's the difference in him and Harrow. With Harrow, it's impossible not to notice him. The guy absolutely owns every second of the game. Marshall just seems like another (good) player out there. Is that worthy of a McDonald's All-American award? I sure as hell don't think so.

Harrow>Irving>Marshall (IMO)

Marshall looks quite stiff and just doesn't seem to be nearly quick enough to guard either of the other PG's. I hope UNC enjoys dealing with that...lol
