I can't see this happening, but this article seems to think there is a chance that Texas will leave the Big 12 for the Big 10:

http://ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2010/02/11/texas-to-big-ten-rumors-heat-up/?ncid=txtlnkusspor00000002

Quote :
"Ever since the Big Ten started kicking around the idea of expanding to twelve teams, Texas has figured prominently in the discussion of who that 12th member might be. Missouri, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse have figured more prominently, but each of those schools seemed somewhat less than ideal as expansion targets.

Texas itself has also seemed like a longshot. Many have dismissed the Longhorns out of hand, citing a (nonexistent) rule that the Big Ten will only expand to states which border on its current territory. Others believe the travel costs involved for non-revenue sports would essentially kill the deal.

Don't be so quick to dismiss the chances of Texas joining the Big Ten. The Lawrence (Kansas) Journal-World is reporting the parties have already made contact.

Then again, this could be one of those reports we all need to take with a grain of salt:

A source with ties to the Big Ten said that while most people's attention has been trained on the conference stealing Missouri, the Big Ten has engaged in "preliminary exchanges" with a much bigger fish from the Big 12.

"There have been preliminary exchanges between the Big Ten and Texas," the source told the Journal-World on Wednesday. "People will deny that, but it's accurate."

"A source with ties to the Big Ten" is a maddeningly vague phrase. It could be anybody from an actual conference official to a Big Ten school athletic director to an assistant coach who used to coach at a Big Ten school. Technically, it could even mean somebody who graduated from a Big Ten university, but that's obviously very unlikely.

The Journal-World knows who its source is, though, so I'm willing to give this story the benefit of the doubt. I'll assume it's somebody who is actually in a position to know if there's been contact between the conference and Texas.

The benefits of expanding the conference to the media-rich state of Texas should be obvious, and it's clear the Big Ten wants to maintain a significant presence in Texas no matter what. Texas may never actually join the conference, but it would be a great fit academically, athletically, and culturally. This is one report worth keeping an eye on."

for as slow as players in the big ten are, their conference knows how to make crazy dollars

oh we should have a conference title game? fuck you, we'll instead have two teams in BCS bowls every year and get the bigger paycheck

oh we should be at the mercy of the networks and cable companies? fuck that we'll start our own network

Texas joining the Big 11 would be a terrible idea that makes no sense. Also why would Texas want to join the Big 11, they already dominate Big 12 in general and are making $texas anyway. I just do not see the purpose. Notre Dame needs to join the Big 10 and be done with it.

so if Texas leaves the Big12 for the Big10(11), will they also swap conference names?

So, they'd leave the Big XII and join... the Big Twelve?
