I picked up a RC hummer a few weeks ago. It's a load of fun, but I'd like to customize it for better performance. first thing I need are new batteries...

anyways, what are some effective, yet easy, but not texa$ ways to improve performance?

^^exactly what hummer do you have? Then we can tell you how to improve performance.

Typically though:
Better batteries
Hotter motor (fewer winds) if it's a brushed motor system
Upgrade to a brushless system
etc.

if you aren't able to list more details than that - it's probably a generic RC car that doesn't have readily available parts to swap out

brand name? who makes it?

I got a traxxas bandit brushless vxl a few weeks ago. it is my first REAL r/c car. The thing is so fast I have already gotten into a couple of bad wrecks (replaced both shock towers, shock caps, front arms, etc..) running it on my narrow street. What are some good places around here to run it?

Also, after my most recent crash it seems like the steering servo centering is way off. I took off the servo bell and followed the directions to re-center the servo but I still have to adjust the steering trim way to the left on my transmitter to get it to track straight....can anyone point out what else might likely be an issue?

Thanks,
Jacob

toytownhobbyshop.com in Fuquay has its own dirt track for you

New Bright is a brand. It is not hobby grade, you won't be able to do anything to it really. I mean you could get another battery and run it in series to up the voltage, but not sure if the electronics could take it.

If you are looking for cheap hobby grade stuff, people on Craigslist never know how much their stuff is worth. So naturally they ask waaaaaay too much, or just want to get rid of stuff for practically nothing.

Look for brands you can get parts for:

-Traxxas is BIG
-Tamiya is technically bigger worldwide but support drops for a product much sooner
-Team Associated
-Team Losi/Losi
-HPI **big and very easy to support, especially their on road 1/10 nitro and Savage series trucks

There are a few others, but ask before you buy if not sure. Those are the MAJOR players, with Traxxas and HPI being among the best overall. Like they are the GM and Ford or Toyota that make every kind of vehicle.........and you can get parts for them.

Granted I haven't done anything in over a year, but I still have all of my stuff and I have worked for a few hobby shops over the past 7 years. PM if you want.

check out http://www.towerhobbies.com they are big

better prices and different upgrade parts, but oversears rcmart.com

Team Losi will be at http://www.horizonhobby.com

Be warned, New Bright is sold by some of these places, but remember it is NOT hobby grade. If you want hobby grade but for a good price to start, I would consider a Ready To Run HPI, Associated, or Losi electric car for about $170 you would have everything you 'need'

mcaflo= if you wreck it bad enough the servo will be fucked up. The ones that come with the car are not that great, like the same servo would cost $15 alone.

Upgrade to a metal geared servo. Cost about $40 but will last longer, and probably be faster to make steering easier. Just make sure it will match the servo arm 'teeth' that you use. Seriously if not sure about this, take it to a shop. They will set you up.

can you not read?

^^thanks. I knew it was a generic/cheap RC car, I was just hoping there were standard sized parts that could be easily swapped for upgrades. I got the thing for free and thought that I could spend a few bucks to improve performance. That being said, I don't think I'll be getting into the real RC field, as I wasn't trying to spend all that much . I may keep an eye on craigslist just in case a good deal comes by. thanks again!

mcalfo, have you made sure both of your tierods are the same length or not bent? Im guessing either your steering linkage isnt set up right or the servo is messed up.

yup tierod length is a possibility I didn't think about. OR on your transmitter, have you played around with the steering centering dial?? Basically it is on the top corner of the controller of a Traxxas transmitter, moving it will effectively change where the servo 'starts' to go back to 'center'

another thing i noticed on my car is it seems like there is a lot of shudder in the rear axle...like both the back wheels shake a little bit when it is accelerating. is this normal? anyone around raleigh/ncsu that knows about this stuff that could take a glance at my car this weekend? it's a traxxas bandit vxl.

i have decided to sell a vast amount of my RC cars and trucks soon. I have no time for them and since I have taken up training for running and cycling, I would like money to go towards those hobbies instead.

I will have a nitro TC3 for sale, an electric B3 buggy, and possibly an electric TC4 with everything you would ever need. Also a Tamiya TA-04 which will have no electronics but all sorts of spares.

I need time to sort through my stuff and get it all together, probably in a few days. I'll post them on Craigslist and t-dub when I am ready. I need to test some of the stuff, cycle batteries, and so on before.

any interested parties let me know..........

r/c ad on the bottom of this page LOL

I will get it all worked out most likely tomorrow. Pics, price, etc.

I have all sorts of tools, a starter box, ICE charger, power supply and so on. I mean EVERYTHING to run any type of on road car

I should be done later today going through all of this.

Electric TC4 with several batteries, an MX-3 digital (but FM not 2.4) transmitter, several motors and an ICE charger, oh and enough spare parts to race with and build up most of another car, spare tires, etc

Nitro TC3 with a .18 fitted inside, single speed, I have a two speed kit for it, starter box, tons of spares too, fm transmitter, a couple of bodies, spare tires, etc

Electric B3 with no electronics, some spare parts, electric buggy if you don't already know

A LOT of pit tools, you name it I probably have it. Soldering Irons, heat gun, car stands, shock stands, power supply, all little tools, ride height keys, etc

A tamiya ta-04 that was my first car and has a vette C5-r body. no electronics, all sorts of spares. Front bumper bent up but car is in great shape. Perfect if you don't want to spend a ton of money to go fast, but getting parts is getting to be difficult. How honest is that?

This is all just from my head. I will probably uncover all sorts of stuff. I have the manuals for all of my stuff, boxes for most of it too.

OK folks I have too much stuff to go through and finish today. I got it all out and need to piece stuff together, test some things, etc, etc

However I am selling my AMBrc DP personal transponder. I know I can get $75 no sweat on eBay, but if one of you are looking let me know ASAP. Otherwise its going on eBay tomorrow.

I have the cover/case and instruction manual.

I will also sell my Duratrax ICE charger with a power supply. I know I can get $90 no sweat for both on eBay, but again let me know if you are interested.

I think I am going to keep enough stuff to run my tc4 with a few batts and a spare motor. But everything else is gonna go.

put the transponder on ebay already http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220564307633&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

bid if you want to pick up locally. I kinda need the money so went ahead and listed.

I will most likely hold off on other ebay listings for another week.

Well I just shipped my transponder to Norway of all places...............

I am probably going to keep more of my stuff than I thought. I won't be able to get a lot of money out of it. I may sell some more small things I wouldn't need, like that transponder.

But after looking on ebay all my stuff is too old/not worth that much. I have like EVERYTHING I would ever need to run all my cars, so I should probably keep it that way.

My nephews will be able to drive them in just a few years so I will hold on to some of it for them. I don't even know what all I have, so some random parts I will part with, but not my vehicles it looks like.

oooohhh ohhhh... so i stepped out of the RC world for a while but got back in on my birthday with a brushless lipo helicopter.... this thing is INSANE! then i was thinking what has happened to the regular cars with this brushless lipo revolution... HOLY SHIT they're fast now.

the new version of my HPI RACING 4wd truck goes something like 70mph? i don't think mine hit 40 with a race motor that melted NiCads.

Kildaire Farm rd behind the Starbucks, next to the advance auto and the woodquarters unfinished furniture store.

I haven't been in there yet, but follow it on facebook. It is literally 1/2 way between work and home for me, not out of the way. I think once I find a good LHS that isn't too far away I'll get back into the hobby. Thats why I want to hold off getting rid of more stuff, although likely the nitro stuff will be gone, I want to stay electric.
