6500K florescent bulbs work fine.
Go with a redder bulb to encourage flowering.

Why is everyone jumping to conclusions. She might be growing vegetables and stuff in her basement. Don't judge her $500 power bill. 2/14/2010 9:47:11 AM |

I don't want to encourage flowering. I don't get hardly any direct sunlight into the house (and then for less than an hour in a go). I just need to replicate sunlight.

Get something similar to the "Sun Blaze T5 High Output Fluorescent System" and a stand here:

I'd get at least a 4 bulb fixture. You will need a redder bulb to encourage the plants to bloom and fruit. 2/14/2010 11:41:09 AM |

Wait. You're growing vegitables. But you don't want them to flower?
Good luck with that 2/14/2010 11:43:10 AM |

I saw pics of her - I doubt she has ever touched a vegetable, let alone plans to grow them. 2/14/2010 11:52:58 AM |

Yeah...for seedlings, stick with 6500K bulbs.
Run the lamp about 18 hours a day (a wall plug timer from Home Despot, Lowe's, etc. is useful). 2/14/2010 12:15:12 PM |
