...I made this huge deal about how excited I was, and how much the book meant to me, how I related to it so much growing up, and all that stuff. People were weirded out by this. Even my parents were a bit miffed--I liked the book a lot, they said, but not that much. I chalked it up to a funky memory/perception issue.
Anyway, I just figured it out. I wasn't remembering Where the Wild Things Are. I was remembering Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day:
http://www.amazon.com/Alexander-Terrible-Horrible-Good-Very/dp/0689711735/ref=tmm_pap_title_0
I was not the cool, rebellious kid with a kickass imagination and a heightened appreciation for children's books illustrations. I was the inappropriately emotional and annoying kid who constantly needed her feelings acknowledged.

^^Hey now. I'd say the need for acknowledgement has at least downgraded from constant to intermittent.
I mean, give me some credit here. I have discovered alcohol after all. 2/14/2010 3:19:17 AM |

I just remember: "I went to sleep with gum in my mouth, and woke up with gum in my hair." Which I think is how it begins. 2/14/2010 3:16:20 PM |

I'm getting my movie, y'all. It doesn't look all that good, but still!
Also, I've learned the correct definition of "miffed" since I made this thread. I'm embarrassed, but whatever, I'm not gonna let it ruin my day. 10/1/2014 9:25:04 PM |
