dipshit,
McDonalds cares about profits, not health. The only "healthy" shit on their menu are things that appear healthy to morons, such as yourself. Someone listed the calories for a chicken sandwich, but conveniently left out other info, such as the 46 carbs (which I assure you are simple carbs) on the wheat roll. And, oh, what's that in the roll, HFCS!! Fuckledeedoo!! Also, I'm more than willing to bet a shitload of $$ that the chicken is pumped full of hormones which are proven to be imperative for proper health, right?
It's like wraps; whoever convinced people that wraps are healthier than buns is a fucking marketing GENIUS. Sure, there's a few less calories and carbs, but you're just eating the same fattening dressing in the wrap. Same story w/fatties "just having a salad" topped w/fried chicken, bacon and ranch dressing. or even worse, a fucking caesar salad.
While I do eat some of this crap from time to time, I know everything there is unhealthy. Some stuff is less awful for you than other offerings, but that doesn't make it healthy. 2/19/2010 3:45:30 PM |

while this thread is stupid, what you said there is true.
but, the main point is, mcd will do whatever they can to increase their bottom line. whether that means selling poison or selling healthy food, it doesn't matter to them.
so, if increasing numbers of people start demanding healthy food from fast food places, and this occurs to such an extent that profits of mcd and other such vile places go down, then they will start offering what the people want. it still won't be truly healthy btw, because it will still be full of hfcs, preservatives, e-numbers, hormones, antibiotics, etc.2/19/2010 4:01:08 PM |

of course, my suggestion for McD as a destination for healthy food is a bit tongue in cheek, but its not far fetched to get healthy food there either it will take a population revolt or a smart health food chain to send a jolt into the industry although i guess you could say subway has done a pretty good job of that 2/19/2010 4:04:46 PM |

true, subway is better than most places. But the "meat" is still awfully suspect. the bread is chock-full of simple carbs, and who the hell knows what's in those sauces. 2/19/2010 4:07:18 PM |

depends on what you get.
if you get the hot grilled chicken sub, it is quite healthy.
brown bread (doesn't seem to be 100% whole wheat, but it definitely has some fiber as opposed to white bread), tons of veggies, grilled chicken breast, oregano, olive oil.
a lot healthier than anything you can get at mcd. 2/19/2010 4:26:56 PM |

^^ So IOW, the brown bread is not actually whole wheat bread. Bastards. (BTW, you are wrong. See bottom of my post)
That prompted me to check out their nutrition pages.
I have come to the conclusion that they are not healthy, based on all the junk that is added to seemingly innocent ingredients. Also, just 5 grams of fiber in a 6 inch sub is not enough. It needs double of that. They need to fucking get with the times and have whole wheat bread; the bread alone will bring 6-7 grams fiber.

Doesn't look so bad, does it, aside from the high sodium and lack of fiber? However, this is where you see the garbage:

America being fat has as much to do with everyone spending most of their day sitting at a desk/computer/whatever as it does with what people eat.

it's not costing me anything. Okay, I guess you could argue, "Well, it's driving up insurance costs, blah blah.." but even if it is, the effect is probably slight at best. And anyway, I don't care that much.
Here's my main point. McDonald's isn't what's making Americans fat. What's making Americans fat is lots of Americans stuffing their faces (or their children's faces) with too much fatty food. And I'm not in favor of blaming McDonald's, even in part, for the fact that too many Americans cannot exercise self-control in eating (either in themselves or on behalf of their children.)
It's just another case of the pussification of America. If you're fat, it's because you fucking stuff your face with food and don't exercise enough. Don't blame McDonald's, it's your own damn fault.

Some fat kids whose parents feed them McDonald's and other fast food all the time are fat partly because of all the fast food they eat, no doubt.
Of course, that's the parents' fault, not McDonald's, but you can't say that cheap fast food isn't one of the reasons that we have a childhood obesity problem. But no, it's not the only reason, and it's the parents fault, not the fast food establishment. 3/9/2015 2:07:21 PM |

Yes, I agree with your whole post, and certainly with this quote. And I suppose I see your point.
However, I'm not in favor of prohibiting fast food, or even curtailing it via legislation, just because lots of Americans are eating too much of it and getting fat. The government does not (in my opinion) need to be protecting its citizens from themselves to that degree.
Plus, people always have the right to get fat. And it's not like they're not enjoying the fast food, when they're eating it.3/9/2015 2:12:32 PM |

Eh, i dunno about that. You can feed a few kids at McDonald's for under $10. It wouldn't be very easy to do it cheaper at home, especially something healthy (and especially if you're stupid and lazy).
