Currently cleaning the apt/packing because we are moving into our house next week. I was going through a box of stuff from my parents' house and found a full set of Upper Deck 1994-95 Charlotte Hornets in those little plastic protective sleeves I forgot I even had some of that stuff haha. Not that it is worth anything at all, but it kinda brought me back, especially since I really loved the Hornets backs then. Figured a few people on here probably used to collect cards too. I was all about the sports cards and Marvel cards back in like 4th grade or something.

i have 10,000s 87-92 baseball cards. I was under the impression that I'd be rich when i got older. Most aren't even worth the allowance money I spent on them.
2/20/2010 9:29:46 PM
loved baseball cards and marvel cards. the old school marvel cards with the ratings on the back were the best, like strength, energy projection, etc.

2/21/2010 1:32:19 AM
I have a shitton of basketball cards at my parents house, and some baseball cards. As far as I know, I never had anything worth more than $30 dollar bucks. Looking on ebay, it looks like I have quite a few that are going for $5-10. I wonder if it would be worth my time to go through them and put some on ebay?

I wasted all of my disposable income from 1991 to 1996 on basketball cards that are now worth nothing. It very well could have been classified as an addiction. I'm not talking about a pack here and there. I effing saved up months of lawnmower money to buy entire boxes. And for what? A Jamal Mashburn Frequent Flyers insert. I tear open 35 packs of plastic each with 7 cards and my jackpot was an insert of someone who in fact was not a "frequent flyer". Someone who may have dunked 11 times in his professional career. Damn you Topps Stadium Club. I don't know where your stadium is nor where your club meets, but I will find you and you will be paying me back my $40 plus 15 years of interest.
2/21/2010 2:41:22 PM
haha

^^ Dude I used to tear through some wax boxes: Topps, Upper Deck, Fleer, Donruss and with my beckett handy.

i have a bunch of really valuable cards, but out of all of them i have to say that my favorite card is my 1991 NBA Hoops FENNIS DEMBO card.
2/21/2010 6:26:34 PM
Somehow I never got into any other cards other than baseball.
2/21/2010 6:58:06 PM
Anyone old enough to remember when cards used to come with bubble gum? Shit was like cardboard. I'd say late 80's was when Topps stopped doing that.
2/21/2010 7:15:09 PM
yea it was really gross
2/21/2010 7:16:12 PM
Topps provided gum in my collecting days. It snapped like a piece of plastic and was covered in an anthrax-like powder. It was nasty, but I usually chewed it. And it stained the back of one of the cards in the pack.I also have a decent collection of 1st generation Garbage Pail Kids.
2/21/2010 7:29:11 PM
i know that 1990 topps still came with gumbought a ton of 50-cent packs looking for that frank thomas rookie error and all i got is about a metric ton of bryn smiths and bernie williamsthe double whammy of crap about these years is that not only were they overproduced, this meant that the only cards worth anything are those deemed GEM MINT 10!!! . . . in other words, never touched by a kid.btw, just found this site, kinda funny: http://www.baseballcardbust.com/
2/21/2010 7:38:38 PM
The gems of my collection:My mom took this one from me and put it up for safekeeping(along with a handful of other cards that were $30+) when it was worth like 160 bucks, well, she hasnt been able to find them since, and the card is basically worth the paper and ink used to make it.I was able to hang on to this one:I used to study every card I had. Did anyone know the 1989 UD Bobby Bonilla card has an error due to the Stolen Bases total not being the sum of his individual totals?[Edited on February 21, 2010 at 7:45 PM. Reason : duh]
2/21/2010 7:45:24 PM
A friend of mine was recently explaining the gem mint standard. I got my cards from my parents' house a few months ago, i hadn't looked or really thought about them in at least a decade. I've ebayed some of them, and while almost all are shit, i do have some decently valuable cards ($20-$100)... if they were mint. But i'm pretty sure they're not worth anything. They all have worn corners/edges. We did a lot of trading and gambling on Nintendo's RBI baseball.[Edited on February 21, 2010 at 7:50 PM. Reason : ^those were the prizes of my younger brothers collection. ]
2/21/2010 7:48:07 PM
^^ I had both of those! Wish I still had the Ken Griffey Jr.

Out of curiosity I looked up my 1967 Mickey Mantle card the other day. It was the prize of my collection, a little beat up but worth a few hundred in the "Beckett" back in the day.I knew the newer cards were overproduced and not worth shit that I have, but I figured this would still hold value but instead it was selling on ebay in much better condition than mine for like $10-20 bucks. Depressing. Hoping my autograph collection which is pretty solid might hold a little more value over time.
8/19/2013 5:06:01 PM
I had a pretty solid collection back in the day. Most every trip to the "corner store" involved grabbing a new pack of cards. Consistently got the new Becket's in and kept up with the values. Had tons of binders and had a few friends that I would trade with. I can't remember what age I stopped collecting, but it was fairly abrupt. I want to say around 6th or 7th grade at the latest. My most prized possession was a sheet of Tops cards that my stepdad found at a yard sale. It was the '86 year that had a ton of ridiculous rookies like Bonds, McGwire, Larkin, Maddux, David Cone, McGriff, Palmeiro, Bo Jackson, Jamie Moyer, Chuck Finley, Kevin Brown, Will Clark, Benito Santiago, Ruben Sierra, etc.Unfortunately I have no idea where any of my cards are anymore. [Edited on August 19, 2013 at 5:20 PM. Reason : edited to add that I'm not sure if that '86 year was correct or if all of those guys were rookies ]
