I'm trying to back up my DVDs and would like to have them ripped to one file while preserving all of the DVDs contents/features. I'm not having much luck finding the tools to do this... most of them are all about ripping to one VOB file (with the IFO and other files still separate) or creating one file out of the main portion (the movie portion) of a DVD.
How can I just rip an entire DVD to one file...?
I've got DVD Decrypter & AGK so far 2/20/2010 11:57:38 PM |

bitch, you don't think I've been googling? How do you think I have the two programs above and three more I've tried but didn't do what I wanted? 2/21/2010 12:10:43 AM |

Rip the motherfucker with DVDDecrypter to your hard drive, then use an appropriate tool like PowerISO to make an image file (ISO) containing all the files from the disc. Then use an appropriate tool like PowerISO or daemon tools to mount the image to a virtual drive when you want to play it. 2/21/2010 1:21:04 AM |

try dvdshrink http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/DVD-Shrink-Download-4128.html
Quote : | "DVD Shrink is a software application that allows you to backup your DVD disks. You can use this software in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a backup copy of any DVD video disk.
DVD Shrink does not burn DVDs! The output from DVD Shrink is saved as files on your hard drive, which you can then burn to a DVD-R using separate burning software, such as the software provided with your DVD-R drive.
Why Use DVD Shrink : Most DVD titles are designed to prevent you from making copies.
The first preventative measure is encryption. Most DVD titles are encrypted, which prevents you from either copying them to your hard drive, or if you manage to do so, being able to play the resulting files. DVD Shrink overcomes this problem with built-in decryption algorithms.
The next problem is not so easy. Most DVD video titles are simply too large to fit, without modification, onto a single recordable DVD-R disk. DVD Shrink overcomes this problem by modifying or "shrinking" the data from your original DVD.
DVD Shrink provides two ways of shrinking your DVD disk. These are re-authoring and re-encoding. You can use one, or the other, or for maximum "shrinkage", both combined." |

get "ripit4me" or dvdfab6 to get it...and then after he uses one of those 2 programs, he can create an ISO file with dvdshrink

can't you keep all of that in mkv format?? 2/21/2010 3:11:34 PM |
LimpyNuts All American 16859 Posts user info edit post |
No. MKVs don't support the menus. They do support multiple video streams, but most players don't know how to handle them. But you could put each title in its own MKV with all the audio tracks and subtitles.
If there are any titles that share VOBs* then the end result will be bigger.
* Movies with options to watch alternate versions or to watch with deleted scenes inserted may use the same files for a some scenes. 2/21/2010 4:53:35 PM |

I'm just using daemon and mounting them. it works well enough, not ideal, but it works 2/21/2010 5:04:19 PM |

Obviously I didn’t read the OP, but that is unpossible to do in an automated way, without disk images.2/21/2010 5:34:01 PM |

yeh, dvd shrink & daemon tools are working just fine. however, why are some saying to grab the dvd with something else (other than dvd shrink) then use dvd shrink to create the ISO? DVD shrink does the ripping straight to ISO...?
however, an issue I'm having now is that my DVD drive won't show up unless there's a disc in it... and sometimes it won't even show up with a disc in it...?
as for earlier comments suggestions: - my first remark on DVD shrink about it being adware was due to it being adware - someone labeled their program the same.... but it wasn't
- I tried handbrake... didn't work/crashed (I'm on W7 x64... not sure if that has anything to do with it)
- I didn't like mounting them at first, because I figured the technology should be to a point where you can just rip a DVD to a single, stand-alone file.... but since that's not the case, mounting them works just fine.] 2/23/2010 7:59:48 AM |

<rant> I don't want to get off topic here, but why in the world do people release "DVDrips" when they aren't 720x480? I can't tell you how many "rips" I've seen that aren't standard resolutions. </rant>
So if you rip it, rip it good. 2/23/2010 10:54:37 AM |

there isn't really another way to do it while still preserving all the features and whatnot without making ISOs2/23/2010 1:59:10 PM |

any other free ripping choices? I've got a few DVDs that DVDShrink and DVD Decrypter fail on; IMGburn said it couldn't copy protected discs, and ripit4me apparently uses dvd decrypter 2/27/2010 4:12:20 PM |

ripit4me is an add-on to dvddecrypter for the dvds it can't rip itself. 2/27/2010 6:07:16 PM |
