This is a shot in the dark (pun intended) but I was wondering if there's anyone on here that listens to any real black metal. I'm talking about that raw northern forest christraping shit.

To save some time, examples of bands I'm not referring to (no disrespect to these bands, just not what I consider black metal for the purposes of this thread):
-Dimmu Borgir
-Abigail Williams
-Anagnorisis
-Anaal Nathrakh
-Sunn 0)))
-hopefully you get the idea

And skipping past the godfathers I'd hope we've all heard of, examples of bands I am referring to:
-Tsjuder
-Craft
-Weakling
-Judas Iscariot
-Katharsis
-Paysage d'Hiver
-Samael
-Drudkh
-Absu
-Beherit
-Satanic Warmaster
-Blut aus Nord
-etc.

This is the thread for all things kvlt

On that note, Burzum's new album Belus is pretty good. It's not quite the pure evil that is Hvis Lyset Tar Oss but it's methodic, dark and hypnotic. He's definitely gone with a better production this time around, it sounds great but I do miss the icy feel of albums past. Definitely worth checking out though

What are the minimum requirements for number of churches burned and/or number of bandmates murdered?

i don't listen to much black metal at all these days, but the second-to-last katharsis record remains one of the best albums i've heard in the past ten years.

I don't listen as much as I used to, so I'm not up on what's new (thanks for the tip on new Burzum, though). These days the stuff I'm into that's somewhat related is more post-black metal like Summoning, Agalloch, Ulver, etc.

Major players aside, my favorites were a bit more pan-European. Graveland, Drudkh, Nazgul, Enslaved, Blut Aus Nord, Operation Winter Mist. I'm probably not kvlt enough because I didn't break all my Satyricon CDs when they released Rebel Extravaganza, though. But it's cool, I guess you're not kvlt enough either if you haven't disowned Samael yet either.

Weakling, Krallice and Deathspell Omega are everything special to me.

I have just gotten into ocrilim, my black metal project is approaching actuallization.

I will also include negura bunget and perhaps a few other bands when I get back

I'm AstralAdvent and I approved this message.

at least one. I'm not gonna be a stickler on this, there are some great bands out there with only one or two churches under their belts. I will also accept a 15-year prison sentence.

Agreed, World Without End is a brilliant album, probably their best. 666 is crushing as well.

Of the hundreds of bands that flew through my brain when I typed up the OP, I have no idea why Samael made it. I'd been listening to the Worship Him album but I've honestly never been that big a fan. Above sounds like they're failing to rip off Dissection 15 years after the fact. And I haven't even bothered to download Satyricon's newest one.

So many bands have gone that way. Hell I'm still undecided on 1349's new one, a band I thought could do no wrong, but I'll have to admit I was less than impressed on initial listens to Revelations of the Black Flame. I'm not opposed to them exploring new directions, but it could have been better executed. Hopefully they'll return to what they're good at, light-speed devastation.

I've never heard of Operation Winter Mist, but judging from the company they keep in your favorites I'll definitely give them a listen.

Weakling single-handedly gave me new faith in the USA's ability to contend with Scandinavian desperation. Love that band and can't wait for their next release. Hope they stick to the same formula and don't try to overproduce the next one.

I do like Deathspell when I'm in the mood, but for whatever reason I can't fully get into Krallice. I'll find myself loving the intensity and creativity of a passage and then they destroy the flow with some fucking weird atonal guitar play. Not weird-good, but weird-distracting. I saw Liturgy play at Slim's and they gave me the recommendation after a great show. Check them out if you get the chance, nice guys.

If you like Deathspell, make sure you listen to Wodensthrone's album Loss. You might also like Lurker of Chalice.

If the weirdness is what you like about Krallice, check out Orthrelm. One guitar, one drummer, some wild experimental shit going on there. I'd rather just listen to Behold...The Arctopus if I'm in that kind of mood personally, but then again I'm more into the dark murderous stuff anyway.

Oh Astral you should also check out Fen's album The Malediction Fields. Very good stuff. Farsot's album IIII is also a favorite of mine in the more experimental/dynamic/melodic realms of black metal. And of course there is Leviathan, if you've somehow missed this project from Wrest (of Nachtmystium, Krieg, Lurker of Chalice, Sun 0))) fame) You miiight also like ColdWorld's album Melancholie², it's a little more grim and atmospheric but it has its charm.

And a friend recently introduced me to the Northen Silence label. If you have some time and want to explore some good bands, you really can't miss there.

I have othrelm which i believe marston also plays in as well as B...TA, but my favorite by far is Ocrilim, Mick Barr's solo project. Its so fucking abstract, have never heard anything like it.

Either way he's a phenominal player and his octis [not this^] shit is like if you tried to play some zappa 10 times faster but tuned your guitar randomly. Too wank free jazz for me honestly lol.

http://www.vimeo.com/7610727 if the second song here doesn't get you into krallice then idk what will. First song is kinda boring the second one starts around like 10 minutes, i'd honestly reccomend not listening to the first song. Autochthon fucking destroys though especially the long droney part with no vocals.

I have Fen III but i couldn't really get into it, same with Lurker of chalice.

Weakling will never release another album fwiw. All of the members play totally different kinds of music and are generally more successful doing it. I'm pretty sure they never played a show either.

Any oppinions on Wittr? I like two hunters, their first album is hard for me to get into just because its so crudely recorded [sounds like singled tracked guitars which only really works if you're one of those early treble black metal bands where the hi-hat is the loudest thing in the mix]. Their newer stuff just doesn't really have the emotional feel that Two hunters has. I used to open my windows in rain storms and just blast that fucking album at night because it went perfectly with that kind of weather, someone alike opeth with autumn.

1349 will never out do beyond the apocalypse. I have my recording setup completed and will probably be recording some black metal shit in the next few days, possibly tomorrow. I haven't decided whether or not to go kvlt and try and release it anonymously over the innanets or actually try and like market it and play shows like some Bloodsoaked type shit.

I'm listening to Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk again today, and this album never ceases to blow my mind.
