So I dropped my desktop moving it. It took quite a shock.
Its 50-50 posting, and will freeze after a min or so if it does boot.
What all should i check on it? I know to pull all the HDs and check them. Already checked connections, they are all good i think. Pwr supply has a dent in it. Ive a spare but I cant think of anything in it that would be messed up by shock. Dent is caseing only, not touching anything inside. 2/27/2010 3:48:43 PM |

The processor mounting could definitely be messed up. Typically the heatsink is heavy and clipped to the mount, it might have pulled loose or broken it. 2/27/2010 4:04:06 PM |

Yeps. Im glad you said that, I was thinking something more serious. Reseated it, new thermal grease, and its working like a charm. Now to hope none of the HDs crashed... Thanks Much! 2/28/2010 12:51:14 PM |

Ok still having thermal issues I think. I reseated the cpu fan twice now. Im sure its perfect. Its still freezing and putting funny colors up, normally very low level ones, which becase of this Im not sure the CPU isnt fried but when its freezing with the funny colors, possibly a vid card problem.
All connections have been checked and I also pulled the vid card earlier and reseated it. Its good as far as I can tell visually.
Please tell me I didnt fry my cpu 2/28/2010 6:10:48 PM |

some of that stuff (hang/reboot/video errors) happens with fucked up capacitors before they completely drain, maybe dropping it was just a coincidence? 3/7/2010 7:23:15 PM |
