5 Minutes ago I killed a cockroach in my bathroom. Actually, my roommates heard me scream and ran into my room to see me pointing a clorox spray bottle at the sink. Without saying anything they took the bottle from me and went all chemical warfare on his ass, before promptly smooshing it with some tp and carrying it away.

I stood on the bathtub ledge and clung to the shower curtain rod for dear life. My heart is racing and there will be no sleep for me tonight.

Please someone make me feel better by telling me what you are pansy about.

I have similar reactions to spiders. I had to have one of my best friends' 14 year old sister kill a spider for me once...

wtf? you shot it with clorox? what a horrible way to go...

Why not just mash it with a flippy floppy?

I guess I am afraid of being in the spotlight. Not petrified - just will make 2-3 bathroom trips before going on.

they shot it with clorox THEN smashed it. Cockroaches are extra tuff. You can't take any chances with them ok???

I won't laugh, I'm still thinking about how it had to cross through my bedroom in order to infiltrate my bathroom.

I must say I do have rational fears, but as far as irrational goes I think I'm in the clear.

^ i guess i would say the same.

i mean, i am scared of poisonous snakes, lions, scorpions, etc, just like [almost] anybody else. however, i can't think of any irrational fear. no bugs, worms, spiders, etc. scare me. not scared of heights. what else is there as far as irrational fears go?

One day when I'm walking down the street one of those high tension wires that hold up light poles is going to snap and the end of it is going to do a whip crack thing and split my right eyeball in half. It won't hit anything else but my eyeball, which it will split in half.

I think about this often when I'm near high tension wires.

At least I'll get to wear and eye patch.

I have an irrational fear of dead bodies. Not death, or dying, or even normal dead bodies, like f I walked up on one, sure I'd be like, wtf?! but I'd check vitals and shit. I'm talking about the ones in the casket that are embalmed and what not. I think I would literally go insane if locked in a funeral home.

I, too, am terrified of cockroaches

I'd almost rather be locked in a room with a lion than with a thousand cockroaches

hey, my ex had this same thing...sometimes I'd absentmindedly finger her belly button and she'd tense up and snatch my hand away, or snap at me

I suppose this is more of an irrational response than fear, but the belly button comment reminded me. There's a 99% chance that you will get decked hard if you try to pinch my nipples. Male or female makes no difference, I lose my higher-order inhibitions and go instinctual on your ass. No idea why. This is, of course, referring to teasing of the non-sexual variety.

I have this, but I think it is the other way around for me. The idea of stumbling upon a corpse of any variety(freshly dead from a heart attack or stabbed 15 times and left in a lake for a month) is absolutely terrifying to me. That shit makes my wiener soft.

My thinking on the belly button has always been that it's a direct access to my internal organs. Like if the doctor had tied the knot a little too loose, someone poking it could cause it to come undone and spill my guts right there.

I understand that from an anatomical point of view this is not the case, but still every time anyone gets anywhere near it I freak out.

I was pretty afraid of bees at one time, to where I'd have to go inside if there were a few buzzing around agressively.

This was after I ran over a yellow jacket nest with my lawnmower and was stung a dozen or more times. I went back that night and got revenge with some gasoline, but I was pretty wary around bees and wasps for a couple of years.

don't despair, thegoodoctor

I used to be just like you around roaches. I still hate and fear them, but I now have the ability to kill them myself. It happened out of necessity ... once I started living on my own I knew that if I didn't kill the bug, it would still be there! My fear got a little less because I had to do it.

^ I have gotten to the point where I can kill them out in the open if I have a spray, but it scares me worse when they are "dead" because I never know if they are. Those things can come back to life at anytime. So once I kill them, there is no way I'm picking that thing up with a tissue, dustpan, or crane haha.

I know, for real . But if it makes you feel any better I have held a scorpion.

Really small, enclosed spaces (elevators, car trunks, phone booths) make me panic. I thought I would die on Epcot's Mission: SPACE, which simulates an astronaut's experience during takeoff. That's the only amusement ride that has made me feel absolutely miserable.

I don't think I could watch that movie. It was hard enough just watching the mining scenes in There Will Be Blood, which is an awesome movie.

Yup, I too have an irrational fear of bugs, spiders, and creepy crawlies. I can't squish them either, cuz the crunch makes me

I have on quite a few occasions trapped the offending spider underneath a glass or a bowl and let him sit there until my husband can come home and dispose of him!! It's great to watch the cats sit around the glass and watch the spider on the inside.

Flying.

Even thinking about being in the air starts my heart beating fast.

EDIT: Lucy, I'm surprised you're not afraid of flying, being that you're "trapped" in a small steel tube for hours with absolutely no way to escape.

Not really irrational, but I was driving home from the beach on 70 like six or seven years ago and my girlfriend is TERRIFIED of spiders. There apparently was a daddy long legs or something in the car and she JUMPED to the drivers side and we nearly crashed in to the guard rail because I couldn't see a damn THING... I still, to this day, have no idea how I didn't smash that thing up...

^ I actually hated flying for a long time, but my job in CA required me to fly bi-weekly (just short day trips mostly) so I got over it real quick. Now I like it and look forward to flying.

I'm afraid of bridges collapsing while I'm driving under them and for some reason I'm afraid that one day I will just put my car in park while driving just to see what happens. Luckily, every time I've thought about it I'm reminded that I am in the car and will be facing whatever doom I bring for going 60mph to park in 0 seconds.

I walk around a lot on an airplane. And flights are relatively short. I wouldn't want to be a flight attendant, but I can stomach a 4-hour flight to San Diego, since the payoff is that I'll end up in San Diego.

Crowded bars with low ceiling freak me out. I HATE low ceilings. I feel suffocated.

Now, I could NEVER live on a submarine.
