I've heard part time can be considered hlaftime but if 12 is full time shouldn't it be 6 hours to be half-time?

is taking 3 credits considered half-time?

Are you sure you're not thinking of part time? Students attending school under 12 hours are considered part time, not half time...

So yes 6 hours is half-time for undergraduates. I can't find it on that site but from NCSU's site a half-time graduate student is enrolled in 3-8 credit hours.
