other than that sportscenter has been like watching a Law & Order SVU episode -- I'm so tired of all the abuse scandals speculation

ABCSPN hyping this as the biggest game in Houston history.

Houston has been to 4 cotton bowls, won the SWC 4 times, went 11-1 in 1979, and has finished in the top 5 twice

Arguably, our greatest football win of all-time was vs Houston.

Quote :
"
October 7, 1967: The Pack, with its "White Shoes" defense, upsets second-ranked Houston (7-6) in the Astrodome before a crowd of 52,483, the largest crowd ever to see an indoor football game at that time. Approximately 7,000 fans were waiting for the victorious State squad at the airport the next day. "

there are pre-xmas bowl games that probably pay out more than national championships did 20 or 30 years ago.

I'm just assuming that ESPN will be unwatchable until at least one full week after the Broncos are bumped out of the playoffs.

Yeah, unless you're in Alabama, LSU, or Oklahoma there's not a whole lot left to squeeze out of that game.

All the "this shows the BCS is stupid" talk has already been done. Unless you're an Okla St fan nobody cares about the "Alabama shouldn't even have been there" argument. LSU fans are the only ones who still care about the "we're 1-1 against Bama" argument after laying that turd. Bama fans are the only ones who still want to talk about how great their D was this season.

But Tebow, because love him or hate him people seem to react strongly to him for multiple reasons, is a national topic and will be until Denver loses (at least until he gets traded and/or demoted in practice).

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/01/12/tebow-is-americas-most-popular-pro-athlete-according-to-45-people/

Quote :
"He was one of the most popular college football players of all time. Now, Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has scaled the popularity mountain for pro athletes.

Or maybe it’s a mole hill.

In an ESPN survey of 1,502 Americans age 12 or older, three percent identified Tebow as their favorite professional athlete. Tebow finished in front of Kobe Bryant (2 percent), Aaron Rodgers (1.9 percent), Peyton Manning (1.8 percent), and Tom Brady (1.5 percent).

So let’s put this in perspective. ESPN polled 1,502 people. Of those, three percent – i.e., 45 people — said Tim Tebow is their favorite pro athlete. And because 45 people in America picked Tim Tebow, Tim Tebow is suddenly now the most popular pro athlete in America?

Then there’s the fact that ESPN apparently did no narrowing of the options, allowing the folks polled to mention anyone that came to mind. In theory, there’s a chance that the folks responding to the poll answered the question with “none”.

There’s also a chance that 45 or more people answered the question that way.

And so, absent some sort of a runoff vote based on the top five or the top 10 or the top 20 finishers, the truth is that 97 percent of the persons polled, and thus “97 percent of America” have not embraced Tebow as their favorite pro athlete.

Of course, that would provide ESPN with a far less compelling headline. One that definitely wouldn’t have landed on the front page of the Drudge Report."

They could've talked about ungodly horrible Jefferson was at QB and how a huge bettor the night before the game went around to different casinos in Vegas putting $10 million on Alabama.
