Go to just about any motorcycle shop and you can find both of what you're looking for.
Oh, and have fun getting your face ripped off when soccer mom runs you over. 3/11/2010 7:52:59 AM |

the flea market is the last place i would go to purchase a brain bucket motorcycle helmet, but lowes or home depot might have what you're looking for.

why not get a real helmet? i mean, you can get a low-end new helmet for what, $60-70 or something? 3/11/2010 8:13:40 PM |

dont cheap out on something thats going to protect your head and face.
Its not like you have to get the most baller shit out there but you got to take a look at the chance that someone might pull out in front of you and you might have to lay the bike down. you might get away with a rolling or you might just slide the side of your head against the street for 20 30 or 40 feet cause your knocked out.
im not saying im just saying. 3/11/2010 8:34:35 PM |

i own and currently exclusively use a full-face modular DOT helmet
i know people, friends, who have been fucked by other drivers and had their faces altered because of it
and yet, all I'm asking is where to get a brain bucket
the way it looks I'm gonna have to wait till this weekend to go to the flea market anyway 3/12/2010 2:24:07 AM |

SCOOTERZ INC on hillsborough used to have what you are looking for. Also 751 Salvage in Durham used to carry some off-brand ones. Not sure if whether either of them is still around 3/12/2010 2:51:48 AM |

have you checked the harley dealer? I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even have any full-face helmets (assuming they've gotten rid of all their buell stuff) 3/12/2010 8:08:29 AM |

just out of curiosity, is there any evidence to suggest that a cheap $60-70 bell/HJC/whatever is any less protective than a more expensive unit? i realize that nicer helmets are lighter and have more features, but unless you go top-end (and even then i'm not sure that makes any difference), what will a more expensive full helmet do that a cheap one won't in terms of safety?3/12/2010 8:15:55 AM |

I don't think that post was referring to inexpensive full-face helmets vs. expensive full-face helmets, but rather inexpensive full-face ($60) vs. inexpensive half/three-quarter shell ($20) -- obviously there's a safety compromise there.
Any full-face that's that's DOT/Snell approved should provide the same relative protection to your head. The high end ones are really more about durability and comfort. 3/12/2010 8:46:06 AM |

I must have erad the op wrong as I assumed half cut do to the fact he wanted goggles. My mistake. 3/12/2010 9:24:15 AM |

^^ ah, that makes sense...i guess i thought he wanted a brain bucket for style reasons, not cost 3/12/2010 10:11:30 AM |

^ you assumed right
not sure why cost entered the discussion
i've checked ray price, 751, cycle gear, scooterz inc, team powersports and none have what i'm looking for, which is essentially a rigid yamaka. it's not gonna be DOT-approved. and some riding glasses to keep my eyes from tearing up and contacts flying out at speed (though these I can find anywhere)
it's partly for style and partly because i just want to be able to occasionally expose as much skin as possible to the elements on a nice day. like fucking without a condom.
still plan on wearing my full-face most of the time, i'm too pretty to die 3/12/2010 10:24:36 AM |
