I wonder what the odds are of us meeting UNC in the NIT, if we don't win the ACC. THat would be cool, if we don't get to the NCAA Tournament.

still no update from the site

i feel we def. are in the NIT with that win last night but with a RPI of about 90 there are still
teams in front of us that could steal a bid depending on the outcome of games today and tomorrow.

quote from poster dj5377 on PP
Quote :
"omorrow's schedule is getting light on games, but here is what we have:

Today's NIT bubble schedule:
Bid stealing league games:
2:00 PM - Morgan State vs SC State (Final) (Morgan State is the regular season champ and needs to win)
4:00 PM - Sam Houston State vs SF Austin (Final) (Sam Houston is the regular season champ and needs to win)
8:00 PM - UCSB vs Long Beach State (Final) (UCSB is the regular season champ and needs to win)
10:00 PM - Utah State vs New Mexico State (Final) (Utah State is the regular season champ and needs to win....however, note that Utah State is probably in the big dance even with a loss. Furthermore, NMSU has solidified an NIT slot. So this game shouldn't steal a postseason bid regardless of outcome. It's just a matter of slotting for the two tournaments. It has become irrelevant for our bid, but could have an impact on seeding)

NIT Bubble games:
1:30 PM - Miami vs Duke (I have Miami just out. A win here and they will be in, knocking out Illinois State. A close loss may also get them in)
4:00 PM - NC State vs Georgia Tech (I have us in and ahead of a couple of teams. I don't think this is must win to get in, but it would certainly lock it up and help with seeding)
6:00 PM - Akron vs Ohio (MAC Final) (Akron is close to the NIT bubble. If they lose, they are still in the NIT discussion. If they win, they are in the NCAA filled that open MAC spot, so it doesn't matter. Kent State is already locked to the NIT as a regular season loser, so an Akron win here would eliminate having to worry about them. Plus, for NC State, it helps our RPI and resume since we beat them in November)"

do we care about getting into the NIT? enough to start a thread and track some obscure site? really?

if state gets it, fine, pull for wins. but tracking the NIT bubble seems ridiculously sad

^that's my biggest gripe with how the selection process unfolds

None of those teams would finish higher than last in the ACC, and it's probable that some of them (Marshall, Northeastern) wouldn't win a single conference game.

I think we get in.

I think we secured a bid with our win over FSU, and playing possible ACC tourney champ Georgia Tech as close as we did didn't hurt our chances.

I don't know about a 2 seed, but I see us getting an invite, and still having the chemistry at the right time to make a run.

they play games at the home court of the better seed. we'll likely be a 7 or 8 seed

Charlotte has been playing like turd recently. if it were me, i'd put Northwestern in there.

would also be an intriguing 2nd round match-up there if we advanced to play UConn.

aside from the recent hiccups against UMass and G-Dub, the bulk of Charlotte's losses were against a who's who of stong NCAA-T teams

like Duquesne? Charlotte has lost 7 of 8 in the A-10.

you think Xavier, Dayton, Rhode Island AND Richmond will all be in the NCAA-T?

[Edited on March 13, 2010 at 10:45 PM. Reason : 3 of them at most.]

perhaps not...

maybe i should have phrased it as "tourney teams or teams that were on Lunardi's bubble as of 3 days ago"

i don't really know how the A-10 will pan out.

i think the conference might get 4 teams in. it'd be hard to argue against Temple, Xavier, Rhode Island and Richmond, but getting 5 or 6 teams from the A-10 in the NCAA-T might be a stretch.

[Edited on March 13, 2010 at 10:56 PM. Reason : actually, no might about it. getting 5 or 6 teams from the A-10 is definitely a stretch.]

I personally would like for us to get an NIT invite. The more practice time and game time situations for the younger players the better. Also I'd really like to get win number 20. If we get a bid and get all the way to MSG, then I'm getting me a $1 ticket on Megabus to head up there from Philly.

Yes we DO want an NIT invite, b/c before we get the class coming in for the 2011 class that we have coming in...some of our guys need a HELL of alot more experience...and two folks come to mind needed that experience Degand and Gonzalez!!!

THose two fuckers need to SERIOUSLY step up their games before our incoming class gets here next year!!

One thing that is interesting is to think about how little PT degand has had. He redshirted as a freshman at Iowa State. Had to sit out a year then got injured a couple games into the next season. Really he has had about 1.5 season's of actually healthy PT. He really could have developed into a decent ACC player.

we start off like "oooooooooooooooo" then louder like "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH" then we start jumping up and down and going POWER PACK, AMBER LAMPS, CBI, TOURNEY CHAMPS, PACK PACK PACK and then play a loud rock or rap song, that would get things crazy

We'd have to hope for an upset again to get a home game.

But seriously if we got to play a home NIT game and we had a chance to play in Reynolds again I would pay an obscene amount of money if I didn't get a student one.
