I'm getting tired of this shit. I already got it fixed once, and now my 2nd one broke. I called up the repair guys to get a repair order, but they wanted 120 dollars. 120 fucking dollars!

The problem I'm having is that there is no video output. I can hook it up to my television and I can hear sound, but there is no video output whatsoever. I've tried other cables and I've tried hooking the system up to another television. Nothing happened. It is definitely the system that is the problem.

I did discover, however, that there is a three year warranty for systems with the Red Ring of Death. I definitely don't have the red ring of death, but it appears as if the only way I can get my xbox fixed for free is to just leave it on and cook that shit. But I don't want to do anything drastic, so I was wondering if anybody on here had any solutions to this problem.

how is the 360 not part of a class action?

did you guys all sign something that said you're willing to buy at least 2-3 consoles before taking them to court?

This happened to mine, no video just sound, and they fixed it under the warranty. What you do is tell them you have red ring of death (even though you actually have the video issue) and then send it back and if it's like mine it'll go through without a hitch. Just make sure you know all the signs and symptoms of red ring of death and describe those to them over the phone when they're asking you what's wrong.

I don't understand why anyone buys a 360.

The high failure rate is exactly why I chose the PS3 a couple of months ago.

But I guess some folks just looooove microsoft and giving them their hard earned money.

Lol am I the only one that hasn't had issues? I got a 360 about a month after launch. About a month before the extended war. ran out it RROD'd and I got it back from microsoft 4 days after I sent it in. No issues since then and the only problem I have is the small launch HDD and lack of HDMI support from the launch console. Before too long ill get a new one just for the hdmi/1080p support and have a backup working launch 360 to do whatever with

my ps3 is completely boxed in the cabinet with little airflow and runs almost 24/7 due to it being my media server and we havent had cable in years

i imagine a 360 would last a week under those conditions

I can't stand the playstation controller it feels cheap compared to the 360 controller and there's no feedback from the buttons or sticks unlike on the 360, they just feel dead. Also, the PS3 online system is garbage compared to Xbox Live but I have a PS3 too (didn't buy it, came free with a Bravia LCD). I've played it about 5 times and wonder every time the same thing you wonder about people that buy a 360....why does anyone buy this.

Ok dude, that's fucking stupid. The only reason it hasn't died is because your luck hasn't ran out yet. It's only a matter of time.

A lot of people with launch PS3s are starting to have problems too. I personally had to replace both my power supply and blu-ray laser. Older PS3s suffer from a similar issue that caused the RROD (basically failing solder points), and I've heard enough about it that it makes me want to trade up for a Slim while mine still works.

^^^Consumer electronics are never built to last 3 years. The way I treated that xbox it should have failed a lot sooner.

in contrast, my best friend's launch PS3 failed about a month after he got it

if you think its dumb that its locked in a cabinet now you probably think its really dumb that i took it on the road for a whole year in a work truck where it was banged around consistently (in the box mind you) plus went on many flights

in 2.5 years i havent had a single issue with my ps3 and we've already established i'm not a very responsible owner

that speaks VOLUMES about the quality of the ps3 over the 360

[Edited on March 14, 2010 at 3:59 PM. Reason : i do like the 360 controller better though]

because your luck is indicative of PS3s as a whole

hey guess what...I havent had a single issue with both of my x360s for the last two years even though my dog steps on them, my girlfriend shoves the tray in, and I leave them running for days at a time.

i'm not sure why you guys keep bringing up MY luck...must be alot of lucky ps3 owners compared to 360 owners

i think thats pretty much reflected in the return/defective rate

the 360s rate of failure is 2.5x times that of the ps3 and really only the wii has an acceptable failure rate (less than 5%) but they also say its played half as much as the other 2

Because they actually want a good gaming/media experience that the PS3 doesn't have a chance in hell to offer on its best days.

If you don't want to "cook" your Xbox; I can get it done for you for $65, possibly less. Not the dumbass kid with a heatgun way. I've got a hookup with a reflow station to do it right.

other than some games that are exclusive to the xbox, what is so different about the "gaming experience?"

I'm not really a gamer, so I don't understand the things that you people get all uppity about.

^^You really need to own both to truly understand why the xbox is a much better experience. PS3 is always playing catch up.

And my post was partially a jab at PS3 fanboys because they get so defensive about their shit that its actually quite humorous.

As for me, I have both but the PS3 almost never gets powered on. Hell its not even hooked up to my TV unless an exclusive title comes out that I want to play.

The visual experience of the dashboard on the 360 is miles ahead of the PS3 dashboard. I still think they are both great systems, but the 360 has hands down offered the best multimedia and content rich experience of the two systems thus far. That could change, who knows. The failure problem with the 360 is not that big of a deal anyways.

At least the vast majority of 360 owners can use their console at any given time with the exception of the very few waiting on their replacement 360 from Microsoft for RRoD.

PS3 on the other hand can't even stand up to the month of February without making every single PS3 inoperable.

I like how both sides are actually defending their system's honor like it was their slut of a sister or something. Everyone knows both systems have problems and basically both companies continuously put out faulty products. Sony hasn't been making top of the line products in years, I've had problems with their cheap lasers from their first DVD players and the original Playstation. If the XBOX was a car they'd be in worse condition than Toyota. Like someone said earlier, I can't believe they've gotten away without a class action suit. All the computers I've owned have lasted for 4+ years, is it too much to expect the same from a glorified computer that doesn't get used as much as my PCs?

If I could take it all back, I would have gotten a ps3 head and shoulders above a 360. The only reason, and I mean the ONLY reason I got a 360 was because at the time of original purchase I had a rebate deal on a Premium system and the ps3 was still 500 dollars.

I fucking hate Microsoft and their goddamn shitty fucking systems. I hope when the next generation comes around enough people are fed up with their bullshit to shut those bastards down. Unfortunately they have deep pockets so I know this is wishful thinking :-(.

I've NEVER had any problems like this with any other system I've ever owned. This is the SECOND 360 I've had and I'd like to think I took pretty good care of it; I kept it horizontal, away from other systems, and I would never leave it on when I was finished playing with it. I have a Super Nintendo that is damn near 20 fucking years old, and it still works flawlessly. The same goes for my N64, Wii, PS1, PS2, and even my fucking Nintendo NE-fucking-S.

We have both systems. Over the past two years of ownership, the usage has been 70/30 Xbox/PS3. The only reason for that 30% is my roommate's game that came out for the PS3, which he of course has played quite a bit.

The 360 just has a much better multimedia experience. Netflix, Media Center extender, Last.fm, Zune, are all pretty awesome. Xbox Live! is hands down better than Sony's online offering. The game library is much, much better across the board for Xbox (although I'm the first to admit that the occasional Sony exclusives are unmatched, can't wait for Heavy Rain to get here and fucking GT5 to finally come out).

This is a stupid argument. It's one thing to be pissed if you had to PAY to get your xbox fixed, but if it's just a couple of weeks wait to get it repaired and no money out of pocket, that's not an unreasonable ask. I'd rather have a Ferrari that needs the occasional tune up than the Buick.

I do think Sony has a few better exclusives like Heavy Rain as you mentioned, and Demon's Souls. I would also like to try Uncharted 2, but I'm not buying a PS3 just to play either of them.

^^ That's exactly it. They want me to pay out of pocket to get their shitty system fixed.

However, I'm thinking about doing what Punter16 did; just tell them I have the RROD. Sure, some of you might think this is morally questionable, but fuck that noise.

people have such short memories. ps2 had plenty of hardware problems with the CD (not to mention a horrible first few months of games). original xbox didnt seem to have near any problems (a few cd issues as well, but not as common as ps2 from what i hear).

shit happens.

in my experience my 360 breathes better when vertical. I treated mine like shit for like 3 years before it RROD'd and when I got it back I stopped enclosing it, started putting it vertical, and stopped leaving it on for days at a time and it's worked flawlessly the last year and a half. I have a feeling it'll go out soon, but i wouldn't be unhappy as it'd give me an excuse to get an elite or super elite.

^I got xbox at launch as well. My first had a cd reading issue a few months in, best buy replaced it under warranty. Had the replacement ever since without so much as a single problem. (Of course it hasn't been turned on in a couple years)

When will people realize that the 360 hardware plague that it DID have doesn't matter. I don't know a single person that switched consoles because of the problems. They bitched and complained but they still have a 360.

Of course they didn't switch consoles. What do you expect them to do? Sell all their games/accessories to gamestop for cents on the dollar and rebuy everything at full price for a PS3? Anyone that has the disposable income to do that already has both consoles and doesn't really care.

No, most people just grit their teeth and bare it because they have no other choice. That doesn't mean it's not a problem. That's like saying 'yotas accelerating on their own isn't really a problem because their owners aren't buying new hondas instead.

No you dumb bastard, that's not the point. You can't say something like that "doesn't matter" just because the people affected chose to stick with the offending product because it was the most economically (probably only) viable option.

They are not stuck with the console. If you can buy a console in the first place you probably have the means to buy another one. You do realize we are talking about something that cost about 400 bucks versus a 20k car that you signed an agreement to pay for right? If you REALLY hated your 360 that bad for breaking down on you you could easily save up money, or hit your stash, and buy a PS3.

Yeah, and then you'd have a shiny new PS3 to stare at collecting dust until you saved up more money to rebuy Modern Warfare, GTA, and Madden

The bottom line is that people are willing to put up with a lot shit to save money. You're being extremely naive if you think people with red ringed 360s stuck with them purely out of preference for the console.

For example: THE OP OF THIS THREAD

Thats exactly what I would do as well. If my Xbox burst in flames right now I would still buy another xbox, not because I cant afford to buy a PS3 with all the accessories, but because I like the xbox experience and the games more. I couldnt care less which piece of hardware works better.
