I think Richard will end up as the new Jimmy (after Nucky sends him to kill Narcisse) and Eli's son will take Eli's place. I feel bad for Eli but he's already betrayed Nucky once.

I don't feel bad for anyone that wears a hat that stupid looking. And any scenes of Gillian's trial/etc would be unnecessary.

Harrow

Just to clear things up -- Hoover talking to Narcisse -- was that Hoover getting Narcisse's help in trying to bring down Nucky? Who is Garvey?

Also, great fight scene between Eli and Knox. I really like how brutal and realistic the fighting is in this show. Lots of shows have either everyone turn into a kung fu master or just a few punches and stuff, but damn, that fight was awesome.

I think it's good. Better than keeping it going past it's prime.

I mean i'm fine with shows going out on their own terms. This show seemed to have really found it's stride and i'm not sure what i'm more worried about. The fact that they won't be able to service everyone enough or that they'll try to tell way too much about everyone in the short amount of time.

Although I'm sad to see it go, I, too am glad that it is going out on it's own accord rather than jumping the shark and having to wrap everything up really quickly due to being canceled.

So I guess Nucky probably dies in the final episode. Maybe he leaves his empire to Willy.

Season 4 was 1924 and Rothstein is killed in 1928. I'm still hoping that they cover that somehow.

http://www.denofgeek.us/tv/boardwalk-empire/236455/exclusive-boardwalk-empire-season-5-set-in-the-great-depression

Quote :
" Boardwalk Empire star Michael K. Williams confirms that there will be a seven-year time jump for the show's final season.

News that Season 5 of HBO’s period gangster drama, Boardwalk Empire, would be its last set off a wave of depression in amongst its fans. Well, it looks like the feeling is about to be mutual for the characters on the show, too.

While talking to Michael K. Williams during a press day for The Purge: Anarchy (which we will have a full interview for closer to that movie’s release), the subject of the final season of Boardwalk Empire inevitably came up, and Williams told me something very, very interesting— Boardwalk Empire Season 5 is going to have a seven-year time jump to 1931.

“The storyline has jumped seven years [into the future], which is why I have the beard now,” Williams said when asked about what we can expect from Season 5. “The Depression has set in. The days of the shiny shoes and fancy suits are long gone.”

The news certainly makes sense given the series has been about the utopia for organized crime that Prohibition created in Atlantic City, as well as across the country. And since Season 4 took place in 1924, the seven-year jump takes us into the heart of the Great Depression in the U.S., which is one year away from Franklin D. Roosevelt’s election (doom and gloom for a Republican like Steve Buscemi’s Nucky Thompson), and two years away from the eradication of anti-liquor law. It also should be noted that it is two years removed from the beginning of the decade-long fall for Enoch Johnson, the real-life inspiration for Nucky. Albeit, Nucky Johnson did not see the inside of a prison cell until 1941. Of course, Boardwalk Empire can more than easily play fast and loose with its fictional avatar for the historical figure.

Williams also elaborated further about the fate of his character on Boardwalk Empire, the fascinatingly enigmatic Chalky White, the neighborhood godfather for Atlantic City’s 1920s African-American population and the MVP of Season 4. Things have seemed to take an obvious turn for Chalky in those seven years after the death of his daughter in the Season 4 finale.

“It ended very badly for Chalky last year,” Williams said. “His family life is no more, and he is desperately seeking Dr. Narcisse to settle old scores.”

When I urged him on further by asking if he would then have any scenes this season with Jeffrey Wright, who played the antagonistic Narcisse in Season 4, Williams just smiled and said, “I hope so. I’m a huge fan of Jeffrey, and I really enjoy working with him.” As tight-lipped as a bootlegger who can see Repeal on the horizon, Williams simply left it at that.

Boardwalk Empire will return one last time for the Fall 2014 season."

Quote :
"Home Box Office announced today that Season 5 of "Boardwalk Empire" will begin Sunday, Sept. 7.

As expected and going along with the pay channel's other swan song series finales like "True Blood" and "Treme," the Prohibition drama's final season will only have eight episodes.

Last month, it was announced that the award-winning drama will jump ahead seven years into the future. "The Depression has set in. The days of the shiny shoes and fancy suits are long gone," Michael Kenneth Williams said at a recent press junket.

Fans of the show have been lamenting its demise and the fact that 'Empire' creator Terrence Winters will be shifting his focus to another HBO project — the Mick Jagger bio series set in the Big Apple during the gritty 1970s. It, too, will be produced by Martin Scorsese and star 'Empire' alum and Emmy-winner Bobby Cannavale (who portrayed psychopath Gyp Rosetti).

A short teaser trailer which debuted a few weeks ago certainly conveyed the message that the final season will be bleak and that politician-turned-gangster Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) may stand alone.

On Thursday, the drama snagged seven Emmy nominations, including one for veteran director and series producer Tim Van Patten in the category of Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for the episode "Farewell Daddy Blues.""

Ditto.

Even with masseria getting capped, someone getting macheted and then ear'd, it was really boring. The best part was Margaret's boss.

Same for me. The only part that really interested me was Chalky's story. Hoping that Nucky doesn't stick around in Cuba that much longer.

So what's up with Luciano's lazy eye/scar? That is new, right?

Yep. I forget what year Season 4 was set in, but this is now 1931.

Quote :
"In October 1929, Luciano was forced into a limousine at gun point by three men, beaten and stabbed, and dumped on a beach on Staten Island. He somehow survived the ordeal but was forever marked with a scar and droopy eye."

I thought it was due to the Great Depression -- he gave that speech about how Mickey Mouse stayed happy and kept on trying despite being stranded on the a desert island. This is like two years after the stock market crash so the bank was probably struggling. Lots of rich folks who lost a lot of money in the depression killed themselves.

I was remarking about how disappointed I was that bankers didn't do the same in 2008, but they just figured out how to make even more money out of a depression.

I will say that I don't (not sure I've ever) have the same desire to watch this show immediately every week as I do other shows like TB, TD or GoT. i.e. when it plays live at 9pm or ASAP via DVR when I have the time.

I didn't even watch the season premier till 9 days after it aired.

Capone may be a complete psychopath but at least he's a good friend to Nucky. Or maybe he just hates Luciano that much.

Then again back when Rosetti tried to take out Nucky, Capone (and Torio) were the only ones of the big crime bosses that came to help him, so it makes me think that Capone feels some kind of loyalty. Maybe it's just because Torio instilled a good level of respect for him.

That guy playing Young Nucky is amazing. I suddenly look forward to the flashback scenes rather than want to skip over them.

Also - Mickey Doyle's "ninth guy" (that kid who pestered him) is rumored to actually be Tommy Darmody, working his way in for revenge.

Ah yeah, that young version of Nucky is creepy in how similar he looks to Steve Buscemi. I'm sure it is a lot of makeup and effects and stuff, but they did a damn good job.

So the ninth guy -- Is that the same one that was sweeping up and stuff in the bar and doing odd jobs for Doyle? I remember him allowing him to join up with the others when he was looking for men to load cars, but I don't recall if it was the same person. If it is Tommy, he would have had to be in the exact right place at the right time to know that Doyle was going to go there specifically looking for some hired help.

It would be an interesting way to end the series though, with Tommy taking out Nucky.

^Yes, that was him sweeping.

I don't think he'll take Nucky out...Nucky goes to jail in 1941 and dies naturally in 1968. I know they dramatize a lot for the show, but killing Nucky outright would be too much.

If indeed it's him, I predict a failed attempt, with a bodyguard taking down the kid and Nucky finally recognizing him at that moment.
