What does "motherfucker" mean?

I guess it's in Nucky's girl's contract that she has to be nude in every episode. 3 for 3 so far. Preview for next week's episode looks good.

As soon as "mother fucker" was said I thought, "hmmm...did they say that back then?" Loved that exchange.

Another solid episode.

good episode. i feel like the pilot actually did a disservice to the series, as it was dramatically different from episodes 2 and 3. but it all seems to be building to some badassery down the road.

i was in atlantic city last week and it's remarkable how much they are advertising the show. every hotel/casino i went to had "prohibition inspired" cocktails as well as multiple signs for boardwalk empire.

also, omar here.

That face cutting was nasty...

Loving this show so far. So good... I'm still getting the characters down though. Who was the one who was asking for Jimmy and that is [apparently] going to hook up with his mother?

Good episode. Looking forward to next week's show. The preview looked awesome.

I loved it when Jimmy's mom said she doesn't want to be called grandma when the peaches are still good/ripe/on the tree.

sure didn't

although its use in Deadwood may or may not be historically accurate according to wiki's origin of mother fucker (which I googled just now only cause I was curious, not cause I'm trying to prove a point)

i heard "pimp's cup" as well the first few times it was said. i had no idea what it was or was referring to until later on in the Senator's office when the delivery arrived. some bad pronunciation or acoustics or something there.

the guy slicing the girl's face was wretched, i was very squeamish with that scene even tho i knew something was gonna happen (i was betting on the guy stabbing her). i wonder if Jimmy and Al will find out who did it to exact revenge, even tho we know who did it and why.

the whole Nucky/Mrs. Shroeder thing is quite bizarre in my mind. i'm not sure what the show is trying to get across regarding Nucky's persona, that as much as he is a whore-monger and drinker and politician he still longs for certain conservative and old-fashioned styles of life? one woman, family, house, etc?

I thought it was Luciano looking for Jimmy in AC but for some reason he looked a bit different...

Yeah, Nucky's girl is the typical girl who he is "supposed to be with" at that time. Non-questioning trophy girl. You can tell he tries to be tolerant of her because that's what he's supposed to do but he isn't completely thrilled. Schroeder is intriguing to him because she's a girl that actually has her own thoughts and opinions and isn't afraid to share them. And for guys like Nucky, I'm sure a little bit of the attraction/intrigue is in the game (in other words, she isn't a "I'm Nucky Thompson" bang) and not necessarily the girl.

It still trips me out that Jimmy's mom looks like she is 27 or 28 and by far the hottest chick on the show, lol... So as the show goes on who gets the Dutch Schultz role? What's Tim Roth doing these days?

** Damn people, you never heard of Pimm's? They are owned by one of my old clients in SF..

^^ of course not... I was just wondering if there was any specific reference to it that I missed... I mean I'm sure the reason they casted someone who looks so young is for us to infer that.

based on the year this took place and jimmy being enrolled at princeton before enlisting i'd say it puts her at 16-17 when he was born.

I think they just wanted to cast the hot MILF and figured they wanted someone they could pass off as looking younger and hotter than the typical mom. I'm assuming she's probable supposed to be in her early 40s. Where in reality Gretchen is like 37.

My question is. Does Luciano think he's going after jimmies wife? He asked for Mrs Dormond(sp).

And also is she coming on to him because she is trying to protect Jimmy (she knows Rothstein is after him from the conversation with Nucky last episode)? Or is she just a very sexual person who wants to screw Lucky?

I'd never heard of Pimm's Cup before!

Probably always thought it was pimp cup.

I like the bit with Schroeder snagging the lingerie on the way out. Kinda happy for her. Also kinda sad cause it demonstrates the infectious nature of iniquity. Her first corruption or whatever.

I've always known the product itself to just be called Pimm's... and you mix it with other crap to make a Pimm's cup.

Never seen it written out on the label like it was on the show.

Quote :
"There are six Pimm's products, all of which are Fruit cups, only Cups #1, #3 and #6 are still available at present. The essential difference among them is the base alcohol used to produce them:

Pimm's No. 1 Cup is based on gin and can be served both on ice or in cocktails. It has a dark tea colour with a reddish tint, and tastes subtly of spice and citrus fruit. It is often taken with "English-style" (clear and carbonated) lemonade, as well as various chopped fresh ingredients, particularly apples, cucumber, oranges, lemons, strawberry, and mint. Pimm's is also mixed with champagne (or a sparkling white wine), called a "Pimm's Royal Cup". It is 25% alcohol by volume.
can also be purchased as a pre-mixed fortified lemonade (Pimm's & Lemonade) in 250 ml cans or 1-litre bottles, at 5.4%.

Pimm's No. 2 Cup was based on Scotch whisky. Currently phased out.

Pimm's No. 3 Cup is based on brandy. Phased out, but a version infused with spices and orange peel marketed as Pimm's Winter Cup is now seasonally available.

Pimm's No. 4 Cup was based on rum. Currently phased out.

Pimm's No. 5 Cup was based on rye whiskey. Currently phased out.

Pimm's No. 6 Cup is based on vodka. It is still produced, but in small quantities."

I am becoming impatient. And to tell you the truth, I am getting bored with everything the involves Nucky. The entire celtic dinner scene could have been cut short by 10 minutes.

I hope they start focusing more on Chicago actually. Shit is about to get heavy there. I am tired of the bootlegging bureaucracy. I want bootlegging carnage.

i was definitely expecting nucky thompson to slap a bitch at the end.

the scene between Pearl and Jimmy and his story of Mr. Lancaster was seriously one of the best of the night, actually every scene between them was great. I was half expecting the outcome but it still saddened me when it finally happened.

I felt really bad when the girl killed herself (I dont remember names). I thought her to be one of the best looking girls on the show and something charismatic about her. Then her face gets fucked up and Jimmy didn't even want to give her a kiss because of how she looked.

^^ i think her name was pearl. she had a hypnotic voice/accent. you saw the suicide coming though.

also i'm surprised they had nucky kiss mrs. schroeder that early. should make for large advancements in the plot as long as they don't make nucky act like nothing happened the next day.

Dude get out of here with that shit, if you want to watch a bunch of people get killed go rent a slasher flick. This is the same criticism I heard all the time from people about The Sopranos, and if you watched that show or this one mainly to see people get whacked then you are missing the point.
