Amazing is an understatement. I got picked as an Omeganaut. Lost in the first round thanks to my dumbass partner not knowing how to do blue sparks even though I explained it repeatedly before hand. However, I got to use the Omeganaut badge to skip any line at PAX and it was magical. Some panels I got to sit with the VIPs and shit.

-Wil Wheaton's keynote was good, and losing my shit at the Omegathon bracket was indescribable.
-Bill Amend was great.
-We promised Scott Kurtz we wouldn't talk about his panel, but front row for that was incredible.
-The 10 linked Steel Battalion room was nuts. 5v5 Steel Battalion, in one room.
-The Expo Hall was nice, I bought Splosion Man while I was there and saw a demo for their next game.
-Monday Night Combat looked good too, especially for a Live Arcade game.
-Some of the indie games were horrible. Snake360? Snake, really?
-HOLY SHIT did you see the people playing DnD on the Microsoft Surface downstairs?? I'm glad I only encountered it the last day or I would have been drooling over it the whole time.
-The last round of the Omegathon was insane. If only it worked the first time.

Part of me is afraid of going again since I probably won't have the golden ticket...but I have a feeling that it was super awesome even without the pass and stratospherically awesome with it.

I'm definitely planning on going to Pax East 2011.

Wil Wheaton is the least interesting thing on his list too.

Seriously who cares what this guy has to say? What has he done to make his opinion worth reading? Being the worst character on a Sci-Fi show and playing DnD doesn't count for much IMO.

I don't follow him at all, but apparently he's a big name in the video game blogging industry. Also, most of the nerds at PAX were cheering to have Nathan Fillion do the next keynote. wtf?

At any rate, Wheaton's speech was entertaining.

haha well go see Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog and Firefly for why nerds would cheer for Fillion.

I actually like Fillion but I would also be curious as to why we would care about his opinion in regards to the video game industry, same as Wheaton.

Oh well, sounds like an awesome time. Ill have to look into PAX east. I just worry that, same as blizzcon, it gets so huge that is more of a hassle and annoyance than actual fun when you finally get there.

I think Wheaton has been active in the video game community for quite some time. IIRC, he mentioned running his own MUD back in the day and has definitely done a bunch of other nerd shit since.

Plus, he probably received a lot of clout from Felicia Day casting him this season on her webseries.

I only got a few minutes with Splinter Cell and I think it was between rounds because me and the guy next to me couldn't find anyone to kill. We were just wandering around abandoned office space so I didn't get a good feel for the gameplay. Plus the "frag dolls" were not extremely helpful.

I really liked Splosion Man. I bought it from their booth and got a signed poster to go with it. Their next game looks great too.

I kept finding myself back at the Monday Night Combat booth. Definitely downloading that when it comes out.

I'm flying out Thursday night with a friend.

First PAX, I'm pretty excited.

Pretty cool that disco_stu was an Omeganaut. That's like winning the lottery (although the chances are a good bit higher. 1 in 2,000 maybe? Assuming 20/40,000 get it.)

I don't think the odds were that big. For 2010, you wrote your name down on a card while you were waiting in line to get in. Maybe 5000 cards. (and my name was on several. )

It was still pretty sweet. Can't go this year because my wife is due in a couple weeks. Have fun everyone!

Edit: I'm super excited about my wife giving birth, btw.

Portal 2? Awesome!

I don't think Battlefield 3 will actually be playable though, from what I hear it's just going to be a developer-controlled walkthrough. I think they gave the wrong impression initially and reworded the announcement.

Still pretty excited for that though.

Oh, man. I had such a blast.

I got to play Child of Eden (the Rez sequel), and it was beautiful. We spent a ton of time with Dance Central on the Kinect. It's a lot of fun, and it's also hilarious.

If you came across some black dudes dancing outside of the L.A. Noire booth, that was me and treaves with our friend El. Also, I had little interest in L.A. Noire until I saw the demo. Now, I really want it.

We all agreed that we did and saw and ton more than last year including the QR code quest, the Metroid Metal concert, and a couple of panels.

I think what I most love about PAX is going through the indie/start-up booths. There were a lot of neat things going on in those.

We also gave tabletop a try and played Shootin' Ladders, a Chutes n' Ladders board game shooter (more fun that it sounds in practice).

Definitely want to go back next year and do even more stuff.

Ya, I thought I could get by without a Kinect until I saw it. They're allowing for gamepad controls, but it won't feel the same. My friends were watching me play the demo, and they said I was just sort of staring wide-eyed the entire time, completely immersed while I switched from targeting to rapid fire and back again.

Well, after my first Pax I'm convinced I have to go to East every year. I might even try to go to Pax Prime in August (at least once).

I think I had a good mix of spending time on the showfloor, at the panels, and in the other rooms. The Classic Console and Classic Arcade rooms were great, I finally got to play ET for the Atari.

The highlight was probably the private dinner I had with a group of Halo community people and Microsoft employees (343 Industries). There were about 15 of us at a fantastic Italian place chatting and joking about all things Halo. Really felt like an insider, making friends with the people working on the next Halo game.

It works like any other place where others are milling about (fairs, malls, football games) except more people are wearing costumes and holding portable games.
