RALEIGH – N.C. State University football coach Tom O'Brien has suspended 20-year-old Justin Sweezy indefinitely after Sweezy was accused of beating up a shuttle bus driver.

Police say Sweezy, of Mooresville, is charged with misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor larceny.

They say the victim was a 64-year-old man who drives a shuttle for a Mooresville bar and that the victim accused Sweezy of stealing his tip jar. They say Sweezy punched the man in the face several times.

Officials say the charges aren't set in stone. The district attorney's office will decide on any further charges.

“The reason why we're looking and the investigation is continuing is because the gentleman at 65 years of age has some substantial injuries and the most appropriate charge is what we're after,” Capt. Frank Falzone, of the Mooresville Police Department, said.

newerish details from n&o. at least he didn't steal the tip jar like previously reported. the driver and whomever kaplan is probably escalated the situation by leaving the bus, but still doesn't excuse hitting a 65-year-old.

So, it sounds like he was being obnoxious on the bus and was asked/told to get off. He tipped over the tip jar on the way out (probably on purpose, but that's unclear), and the bus driver and some other dude followed him off the bus. What happened next is also unclear, what was said or who touched who first, but 65 yr-old got beat. What happened to the other guy? and why is he charged w/ larceny if he didn't steal the tip jar?

If he left and the bus driver followed, these charges will be dropped. You have the "right to flight" in NC. If someone doesn't let you leave, follows you or threatens you...you can defend yourself. From what I have read, the bus driver is the aggressor.

Looks like Bryan, Kuhn, Vermiglio and Sweezy were all picked up over the weekend for some drug charges.

I'm not sure why we bother with an athletic program at times.
