I'd vote for Matthew Woodward just to add to the already confusion with Chancellors Jim Woodward and Randy Woodson.
But in the end I think I'd vote for anybody with the last name of "Lego." 3/23/2010 6:26:25 PM |

Now we can finally get those Obamacare-loving hippies out of office! What did the current group of comrades do to stop the socialist agenda from taking over NC State?
Show them who's really boss, or they're going to rape all the women on East Campus who can't get access to a firearm to defend themselves and then force them to get abortions, paid for on the taxpayer dime.
Come on, now's the time for NC State to rally and make your voices heard. Vote! 3/23/2010 8:15:14 PM |

Not that anyone takes these elections too seriously, but I am trying to get a feel for the candidates. Only 4 of the student body president campaigns have all of the following 1) a campaign website 2) a facebook group 3) 400+ supporters on said facebook group
Here are the campaign pics & about me sections for those 4 candidates:
Matthew Woodward:
Quote : | "My name is Matt Woodward and I want to be your next Student Body President. As an Applied Sociology major within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, I understand the value and support the mission of NC State as a land grant institution.
Upon entering the Wolfpack community, I found myself diving into numerous leadership roles. My freshman year I was appointed by the chancellor to the Campus Culture Task Force, a committee created after the Free Expression Tunnel incident on November 8th, 2009.
Working with the administration and with Student Government, as a signatory on R 36, Free Expression Tunnel Response Act., I began to understand how our university operates. Serving with SBP Dawkins on the Chancellors Liaison group allowed me to recognize the large role student leaders play in advocating for change. My leadership also carried me to the Student Centers Board of Directors (BOD) where I successfully passed a student body referendum in hopes of improving the way we advocate for the over 450 student organizations represented by the BOD.
Before beginning my sophomore year at State I was privileged with attending the LeaderShape Institute through CSLEPS, reaffirming the value of integrity in my life. I was later interested in learning how large events are programmed on campus, which brought me to a leadership position within the Union Activities Board. Working to ensure events like Wolfpack Welcome Week and a managing budget over $40,000 to put on programs such as, I Heart Female Orgasm, taught me many programming skills. My leadership around campus was later recognized when I was selected as a semi-finalist for the Leader of the Pack award.
In the future I see myself working directly with students on a University's campus. It was not until I was selected as a NASPA Undergraduate Fellow that I begun to realize the complexities of student affairs at NC State. I have a passion for advocacy work and a vision for change. Further, my strengths would allow me to bring a positive, new energy to the campus and I hope you will elect me your next Student Body President.
Matthew Woodward" |

Scott Goldsmith
Quote : | "My name is Scott Goldsmith and I'll be running for Student Body President this spring. I am currently pursuing a double major in Political Science and Philosophy, with a concentration in ethics. As a student at NC State I've seen how far we've come as a university but I also realize how much further we still have to go. I believe my time living, learning, and growing with everyone here at NCSU has offered me several opportunities to realize what you, my fellow classmates, need most in a Student Body President." |
Charles McDowell
Quote : | "I am a Junior in Political Science at NC State from North Davidson High School, where I played football. I have actively been involved in the College Republicans, my fraternity Kappa Alpha Order and other organizations (including Student Government) all over campus and all over the community. As your Student Body President, I will be able to draw from my many, wide ranging and meaningful experiences in order to represent your interests responsibly, as well as being able to make the hard call when necessary. I look forward to a new administration that properly represents and involves students in every aspect of Student Government and decisions affecting you. Go Pack!" |
Kelly Hook
Quote : | "Who is Kelly Hook?
The most important thing to know about me, as it pertains to this election, is that I get things done. I represent you and will seek to find out your concerns and then work with you and others to address them.
I am currently a junior majoring in Political Science and Creative Writing with a minor in theatre. My first and second year at State I was a Student Senator and Leadership Development Chairman. This year I am the Chief of Staff for the current Student Body President and the project head for the Howl for Haiti relief effort. The SBP constantly deals with the administration and I have spent three years fostering those relationships which will enable me to be effective from the start.
I will truly work hard to improve our University and ensure that everyone has the chance to be included in the process." |

As far as I can tell, only one student senate president candidate bothered to set up a campaign website:
http://www.wix.com/smc2390/Sarah4SSP
Sarah Center
Quote : | "I am Sarah Center and I am currently a Sophomore in the College of Education. This past year I have represented the College of Education in our Student Senate and served as both the Public Affairs Committee chair and the Senate Secretary. I am also heavily involved in the College of Education both on the Education Council and as an Ambassador.
Student Senate has been established to let the voices of the students be heard throughout the University. As Student Senate President, I would be dedicated to ensuring that all Senators are held accountable and are adequately representing their constituents.
For more details check out the rest of my webpage, feel free to leave comments or contact me!" |
Quote : | " Students Student Senates job is to represent the students. I want to bring Senate back to the student level and get everyone involved in the decision making process.
Accountability I want to see Student Senators be held more accountable for representing their constituents. One way of doing this is helping Senators to set up Town Council meetings within their colleges where they discuss any legislation pending in Senate.
Retention As many of you have seen this year, Senator retention is a very big issue for Student Senate. Students cannot be adequately represented if they do not have a representative. I plan to incorporate more team and leadership building opportunities into Student Senate an holding one-on-one monthly meetings with Senators to keep everyone on the same page
Accessibility Student Senate is here for the students, so it should be accessible by them! I plan to set aside an hour every week where I, along with any other senators, will be on campus at a Port City Java or other central location for students to bring us their ideas. Based on student involvement the time periods may change.
Honesty It is Student Senate's responsibility honestly support the views of their constituents and not their own personal views. I want to bring more groups into Senate to present on what they do and broaden the horizons of Senator's so they can make informed votes." |
Likewise only one Student Body Treasurer candidate has a website that I can find:
http://www4.ncsu.edu/~elbryson/
Buddy Bryson
Quote : | "Hello! I am Buddy Bryson.
I am currently a sophomore in the College of Humanities and Social Science majoring in Sociology and minoring in Non-Profit Studies.
While here on campus, I have been a part of many different organizations, both in CALS and CHASS. This year I have served as Treasurer of the CALS Agri-Life Council and the NC State Collegiate 4-H President. Also last year I was elected to a term as the North Carolina 4-H Honor Club Executive Board and I am currently serving as their Treasurer.
This year I have continued my work in serving all of these offices as well as representing CHASS as a Student Senator and working on the Academics Committee. Student Senate here at NC State is one of the best in the state, and I feel very lucky to be a part of this great institution.
When considering coming to NC State, I had always heard that you are just a number at this University. But after coming here on a tour, I fell in love with this campus and the welcoming atmosphere that it seems to always have. I learned just how unique NC State from its curriculum to students; from its campus to its community, and that is the best quality that I believe we should highlight about this University.
I have a very strong passion to make sure this University receives the credit that it deserves. I do not look at NC State as a University, but a second home where I am able to receive the best education in the state of North Carolina." |
Quote : | "As the Treasurer for North Carolina State University's Student Government I intend to work with the Senate to make sure that your money does not go to some superfluous cause but rather towards materials and events that will benefit you, the students most. I will also devote my time to working with the students, listening to your ideas and apprehensions about any current and future monetary expenditures. As communication is a vital part of any government I am always accessible to anyone with ideas of concerns. And I will keep the students informed of what is happening with their funds help explain any confusions or misconceptions there might be about it. I have a good deal of experience with being a Treasurer and know my way around the books, so to speak. There is always something new to learn but being a quick study allows me to adapt to new challenges in a heartbeat." |

I've sent out some invites to a few candidates to come participate, maybe say a little more about their experiences and what they stand for, and possibly take a few questions. TWW's hold over student government died with TGD
BTW, Elmo dropped out of the treasurer race, and I think he endorsed Buddy.
Also, I've seen Kelly Hook's hats everywhere, but only on drunk frat boys. Personally I think she's a cool chick, but not SBP material. She would have been better off running for senate president, because I don't think any of the three running are worth it. She would have had my vote there, but not likely for SBP.

Here was my ballot. In a few cases I was voting for who seemed like the most qualified. In many cases there wasn't much to go on though. So if I had to decide who would and who wouldn't get shit done between someone who bothered to set up a website and someone who didn't, I went for website person. And anyone who came to tdub went right to the top of the list. There were several cases where you had to rank everybody, and I only knew about 1 or 2 people, so some of the lower ranking is pretty arbitrary. And there were some sections I left it blank because I knew absolutely nothing.
Student Body President 1 Matt Woodward 2 Kelly Hook 3 Matt Gromlich 4 Scott Goldsmith 5 Jimmy Dieffenderfer 6 Zachary Lego 7 Ches McDowell
