looking for a smartphone for SERO to upgrade from my outdated HTC Mogul. when I checked smartphones last year, only Palm Pre and HTC Touch Pro 2 were allowed on SERO
any new phones now? 3/29/2010 10:55:54 AM |

I dont think you can get the Pre with SERO.
I think Touch Pro 2 is as good as it gets now.
Im in the same boat. I have a 755p and a couple buttons dont work. I need a new phone. 3/29/2010 11:12:15 AM |

^Correct. The best phone you can hope for on SERO is the Touch Pro 2.
You can also add any Blackberry except the World Edition (And possibly now the Bold) if you're willing to add the BIS buyup for an extra 10.00 a month. You will want to *2 for this and make sure that you're speaking with the employee accounts department. Or you can also speak with Blackberry Tech support once eCare has activated the phone for you. 3/29/2010 11:45:19 AM |

Yo... if you are thinking of selling a SERO plan, particularly a SERO500 shoot me a PM. I'm buying them up like they're going out of style. Got an office full of blackberries to outfit 3/29/2010 1:09:58 PM |

DO NOT BUY A PHONE UNTIL THE EVO IS AVAILABLE.
If you do not know this phone, google android evo sprint. Be thankful you did.

Its my understanding that for SERO customers: No Android phones, No Palm WebOS phones, and for a Blackberry you need the upgrade (or other work-arounds you can find in SERO forums).
I think its mostly windows mobile and older palms available

That's correct.
No webOS, no android.
Blackberry is weird. If you can live without push email and the built in browser (say if you use opera) than there is no additional charge. For the blackberry internet (which is proxied/firewalled) and push email its $10 extra.
I currently pay $40 for unlimited data, text, pix, with 500 anytime and unlimited after 7 on a tour and love it. 4/6/2010 1:23:41 AM |

I went to a sprint store and spoke to them, they told me that I could not upgrade my Touch Pro to a Touch Pro 2 without dropping my current family plan (which does have internet) for a $30 more expensive everything family plan, the only difference being the addition of texting, which I don't use. Does anyone here know different? 4/12/2010 1:51:24 PM |

^I will bet $texas he is on the Everything Plus referral plan, or the new "SERO". Sprint's systems don't allow the following phones to be activated on legacy $30 SERO plans:
BB Curve 8530, HTC Hero, Samsung Moment, Palm Pre/Pixi, Samsung Insinct/S30/HD 4/12/2010 11:29:55 PM |

They're definitely trying to get rid of the older SERO plans. If they come for mine, I'll just switch to a different carrier, price is the only reason I'm with sprint anyway.
But I'm mostly happy with my Touch Pro 2. Just need to go exchange it for one where the GPS works (damn refurbs.) 4/13/2010 4:08:40 PM |

^Sprint is still cheaper with normal pricing so good luck finding a different carrier. 4/13/2010 8:19:49 PM |

I'm hoping Sprint will get the HD2 and make it Sero-usable. I'm using the Touch Pro 2 at the moment, and it's too bulky for me. I wish they put some Android phones on Sero, Windows mobile sucks ass. 4/13/2010 11:54:41 PM |

^I did the pay-up $10 for a Blackberry Tour. Will probably ride it for a good looong time. Awesome phone.
However my heart is set on a WebOS device. Their multitasking is sooooooo good. And wifi hotspot with free software? Please son that is too much. Hoping for 1 more device under the palm moniker (well, right now that means before sold off) that has a bit faster processor, and a physical keyboard a tad larger. Got those fat fingers
As for Sprint itself - looking into the 2nd generation femtocells to keep costs low. Hoping the new edition will run 10+ phones so I can just install it at the office and trim everyone's bill. 4/14/2010 12:14:10 AM |

^well, I'm kinda torn. Been using Palm devices all the way back to the Palm II. I also really like Jon Rubenstein. Dude's got balls, vision, and drive. Marketing on the Pre has gone horribly, horribly, wrong. The SDK took WAY too long to produce, and the first iteration of software made it run as hot as the sun.
However recently they've cleaned all that up, they have a very nice SDK complete with a web-based programming tool (which is AWESOME) and great device software. Solid device, awesome OS, just an uphill battle on the onslaught of Google. 4/14/2010 12:42:53 AM |

As a current Palm Pre user and WebOS tinkerer, I can say that it is absolutely what I've always thought should be possible with a mobile device. It acts like a phone, but I forget it's a phone when I need it to do something else. Thanks in large part to an optimized Linux core and a beautifully designed touch-screen interface. 4/14/2010 12:51:34 AM |
