Next Tuesday marks the beginning of the most boring time of the Sports calendar year, in my opinion.

NCAA Basketball - No (it ends on Monday)
NCAA Football - No
NFL - No
NBA - 1 month before the playoffs
NHL - No Canes/ No Cares
MLB - Just getting started, and baseball sucks anyway.

This period lasts for about a month, when the NBA playoffs start and are actually quite interesting usually (once you get past the 1 month 1st round)

Discuss...

college basketball and football are dead to me whenever State isn't relevant.

thus, I haven't really enjoyed myself since the Gator Bowl season

The most boring time of year is after the US Open (golf) until the start of football season. I don't start giving a shit about baseball until the playoffs.

[Edited on March 29, 2010 at 3:26 PM. Reason : Oh yeah the WC is this year. Good, that's something to fill the void.]

You should play fantasy baseball, it makes this time of year 10x better because it's a reason to care about baseball.

NHL playoffs are awesome, aren't near as good minus the Canes though. Hopefully we'll be able to talk about a #2 pick though sometime this summer...............

NCSU baseball started off strong, but has faded so I'm putting all my stock this summer on the Red Sox so their FA signings better have been good or its gonna be a long ass summer til football starts again. NBA sucks ass though.

March-April are my favorite time of the sports year. I like football good enough but I LOVE the return baseball, the NHL/NBA playoffs are gold and the NCAA Tournament is the single best annual multi-day sporting event out there to me.

MLS is starting, European soccer is finishing up, NASCAR is in season, so is college baseball, there are plenty of sports to be watched.

The nba playoffs are essentially a second season in & of themselves...so many rounds of 7 game series with sub-.500 teams getting in. Playoff overhaul should be mentioned in the next round of CBA talks

We all shit on the NBA playoffs (and rightfully so) since more than half the teams get in and you can make it being several games out of .500

But back 25 years ago or so when they first made it 16 teams, there were only 23 teams in the league, so over 2/3 of the teams made it

Thats just absurd

Yeah Yeah but...

Unless you play in a significant money league or with people you know, 80 percent of the league is gone by June

Football is the only fantasy sport that can retain the average person's attention for the duration

Kentucky Derby - IT'S FUCKING HORSE RACING. WHO CARES?

When MLB is the only thing going on sports-wise M-F it is a bad time of year. The occasional good golf tournament doesn't make up for the pure shit the rest of the week.

A thread like this is made every year and it is always a bash on baseball fest.

No one really cares if you hate baseball. Stop watching it and stop bitching about it. They are not going to stop playing because you don't like it.

Plus it is summer time, there are hundreds of other things people should be doing other than watching sports on TV at this time of year.

I like baseball, but summer is clearly the 'dead season' as far as sports

But I mean honestly, football and basketball pwn all other sports so it makes sense that the summer would suck as far as sports

at least we have the NFL Draft, NFL free agency, etc

One could argue that April is the greatest month for most of the sports.

NCAA Basketball- Final Four and National Championship
NFL- Draft, which usually has huge trades around it
Golf- Masters
NBA- Playoff races are heating up
NHL- I don't watch but I bet those playoff races are heating up too
MLB- Opening Day

The NFL draft is the absolute worst weekend in the entire year for me. So boring.

Anyway, summer actually really is the most "boring" in terms of sports since only one major sport is being played. June-August is the only time of the year that only one major professional league is playing meaningful games so by definition it'll be more boring than any other time of year. That is fair.

But fuck the people who decide to shit on baseball in every thread all summer long. Bunch of knuckle-scrapers.

I agree the NFL draft can become long and cumbersome and tedious...especially when your team doesn't have a 1st round pick

But I always like seeing who my team will add for the upcoming season, and if any big time trades go down

Its definitely not as exciting as the NBA Draft because its so long, but its pretty awesome if you DVR it where you can fast forward through all of Kiper's bullshit

The Wizards are out of the playoffs so instead I'm doing the usual and pulling for David West or any NC State players in the playoffs. I'm starting to warm to the Bobcats, too.

World Cup is going to be awesome.

I still have trouble caring about hockey other than the Canes, and I could switch to the Caps since I'm in Virginia but I'm not a traitor.

I'd care more about baseball if the Nats weren't so pathetic. At least we have minor league ball and $1 beer night.

Things will get bad in July when everything except mid-season baseball is over and the only thing we have to talk about is unrealistic expectations for football season.

Wow $1 beer night? I didn't know MLB teams did that, I thought it was just minor league teams

As a Nats fan at least you'll have Strasburg to look forward to...I snagged that beast with the 196th pick in my draft yesterday...here's one of the more recent news blurbs about how fucking disgustingly nasty a pitcher he is:

Quote :
"Thu, Mar 25
Strasburg toyed with hitters in the Nationals' minor league camp Wednesday morning, striking out nine batters in 4.1 one-hit innings, the Washington Post reports.

Recommendation: The one hit was a bloop single, and it was one of only two balls that managed to be hit out of the infield. The Nationals have him working on a slight mechanical adjustment when he pitches out of the stretch, which is as good a pretense as any for keeping him in the minors to start the season.

Ah, yes the World Cup might give a brief reprieve from the maddening boredom that is MLB.

But not much of one, I'm still bored by both sports on TV.
