^^The new M5 (and all 5 series for that matter) has a huge nose. That should make it pretty easy to tell them apart. Personally I think the 5 series looks a lot like the 7 Series (doesn't hurt that they share the same platform), partially b/c it's larger than some previous gen 7 Series. 4/7/2011 8:18:30 AM |

The next M3 to have a V6? Say it ain't so
Quote : | "Rumormill: Is BMW bound to bolt a V6 under the hood of the next M3?
If you're an unapologetic BMW fanboy, the next few words might sting. BMW may be considering a V6 for the next generation BMW M3. No, we didn't mean to type I6 – we're talking about three on one side and three on the other.
According to M3post.com, BMW is likely to go in one of four directions. First up is the suggestion that BMW will take the M3's current S65 V8 and add a pair of turbochargers to it. Now, we're all in favor of adding forced-induction to this engine but this would have the M3 treading heavily on F10 M5 ground.
Another rumor pegs BMW as stuffing either a modified (read: boosted) version of the N54 turbocharged inline-six or a tweaked (read: detuned) version of the F10 M5's twin-turbo V8 S63 motor. The most interesting rumor, however, is that BMW may look into a turbocharged V6 engine. Is BMW HQ ready to hurt the fanboy feelings of folks in love with straight-six engines? If it means a better M3, then anything is possible. " |

Although it would be real pathetic for them to use a modified n54, as a 335 owner I would be excited of the prospects of scavenging it to improve my cars performance. 5/23/2011 5:18:27 PM |

WTF, just one year of production for the 1 Series M? Why did they bother at all?
Quote : | "BMW 1 Series M to be one year and done?
Did you pick up your 2011 BMW 1 Series M? If not, you may be paying a lot more for one down the road. The $46,135 German sports coupe will be produced through the end of this year... and then it's done. According to TheDetroitBureau.com, BMW admits that its latest sex toy pumped-up two-door will have a very limited run of one model year.
That's not to say we won't see another version on the future. However, it could be several years before that happens, which should make the current (and only) crop of BMW 1 Series M cars quite collectible.
After reading TDB's report, we pressed BMW for some more insight into the matter, and received confirmation that the current 1 Series M is only sticking around for the 2011 model year. The next generation 1 Series is at least two-and-a-half to three years away, which is too much time to speculate on a future 1 Series M. Curious as to how many 2011 1 Series M coupes will be produced? So are we, and BMW can only share that "less than 1,000 units" will be produced in 2011.
Said another way... get in line. Now. " |

w00t! I was worried when I got my 2003 325i that it would be a gas hog.
I averaged 32.9 mpg yesterday coming back from Hendersonville, TN. Drove 80-85mph the entire way too.
This is even significantly better than my 4cyl 2003 Honda Accord....I think the best I ever got was 29mpg on the highway. 6/6/2011 10:09:11 AM |

While the e46 was received well here, it wasn't quite as big a leap in Europe. I personally would much rather have an e36 EVO (320hp) than an e46 M3. That said, I wouldn't spend over $20k to get one (nor would I have to, $15k or so should pick up a decent example w/the 320hp motor and a few other parts like floating rotors). But then again if I'm spending that much, there is the 996. 6/6/2011 11:20:36 AM |

per computer or gas pump calculations? my computer consistently shows a couple mpg better than when i calculate it at the pump. still good though6/6/2011 11:39:16 AM |

These were gas pump calculations. My car computer told me I was getting 33.4mpg. Not far off from my actual calculation of 32.9 6/6/2011 11:49:51 AM |

So I test drove a 2008 335i convertible yesterday. It was simply brilliant! I have never driven anything like this! I was doing 100 in a 55 without even realizing it. Handling felt like the thing was on rails. Had a couple of thoughts though. Can the clutch travel be adjusted? it felt like a little more than normal. I haven't driven the auto version yet. Do any of you know how that compares to the manual? does it shift quicker? 6/19/2011 10:46:58 AM |

Clutch travel is fine. You are probably experiencing the effects of a clutch delay valve (CDV), which most modern manual tranny BMWs have. It makes shifting extremely jerky and makes you ride the clutch way longer than necessary in order to get smoother shift. It is suppose to protect the tranny at the clutch expense. It is is an easy fix, but hassle nonetheless.

There are dyno graphs on e90post.com, but with 93 octane you are probably looking at 310-325whp and 360-390wtq.

i ordered an ic, cai, and dp's this weekend while on vacation. i have a scheduled service visit tuesday because the warranty ends friday. i have a non factory extended service plan that is good for another 4 years and 80k miles so after my bmw visit it will be time to install the new goodies. i pretty much plan on leaving said items on and going indy shop for any small service items and pay out of pocket. should i have catastrophic failure goodies off and stock stuff back on then off to the dealer. i hope to put close to 380 to the ground with these 3 items but still be dd comfortable. 8/7/2011 7:54:21 PM |
