I like the Red Sox because someone in my family might have been Irish at some point! Let me go to the bar and wear a shamrock shirt and be obnoxious during your game!

one should only be allowed to support this team if they were an admitted fan between 1986 and 2003

I feel better about my fanhood that I started watching heavily in 2000 so I could experience a classic Red Sox meltdown in 2003 before experiencing the pure awesomeness of 2004.

Beckett signed his 4 year extension today. I'm not sure how I feel about it since he's really only been an ace for 1.5 out of his 4 years in Boston.

first of all, its the Boston "RED SOX", not the "REDSOX"

second of all, lawl

Quote :
"BOSTON -- After going hitless Tuesday for a second straight game to start the season, Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz lashed out at reporters when reminded that his struggles last April and May would be a hot topic if he was slow at the start of this season as well.

"Good," he said, turning to face the reporters encircling him. "You guys wait 'til [expletive] happens, then you can talk [expletive]. Two [expletive] games, and already you [expletives] are going crazy.

"What's up with that, man? [Expletive]. [Expletive] 160 games left. That's a [expletive]. One of you [expletives] got to go ahead and hit for me.""

I've always liked Ortiz, but he needs STFU when it comes to that comment he made. Did he have a great second half last year? Yes, but he was awful in the first half and just as bad in the playoffs. If you make that much money, and play in a market like Boston you deserve the criticism. He is hitting in the 5 hole right now and is our DH, he has to produce for the lineup to be consistently good.

Papelbon also really worries me. He was so up and down last year and got so many saves after putting 2 or 3 guys on base, and last night he got killed in that 2nd inning he pitched. This is why Theo didn't give him a multiyear contract and why Pap was wrong for bitching about that.

I'm glad Ortiz said what he did. He's the nicest guy in that clubhouse and a good hitter. We're 3 games in, he'll come alive.

Red Sox lineup has too many outs right now and the starting pitching is inconsistent. They'll get it together and make a run at the wild card, but the Yankees are going to run away with the East IMO. Rays might stay close for a few months, but I expect the Yankees to take East by 10+ games when it's all said and done (I hope not because I hate them).

Way too many guaranteed outs right now. Ortiz/Drew are sure fire strikeouts at this point. We knew offense was going to be an issue, but I don't think many thought that pitching and defense would be killing this team as well. I think Theo is going to have to part with some of the prospects like Casey Kelly to get this team the bat it desperately needs.

Good news, Youk came through. We also had a JD Drew sighting. Bad news, Beckett was yet again shitty.

Also, that out call on Borbon at homeplate last night was one of the worst calls I've seen this year and cost the Rangers the game. I guess there's too much money on the line for these umps to let Boston get their ass beat at home by just about anybody day after day...

And lol at Bill Simmons' meltdowns as of late.

So far the Sox have an inconsistent offense with no real slugger, an inconsistent catching situation and Beckett has been terrible. Right now I don't see this team working out of this themselves, Theo is gonna have to make some trades really soon.

How am I bitter? Name one thing the "less-successful-version-of-the-yankees" have done to the Rays when it mattered...I can't name anything.

Anyway, as much as I hate the Douchiest Baggiest team in baseball here, I do think they seriously got jobbed today on calls.

I missed the 9th today, but saw the replay. The one on Beltre was wrong in my opinion, but not terrible. The one on Ortiz though was awful, that's the type of thing that the umpire should be docked pay for.

Makeup calls from the shit earlier.

I can't believe this garbage team is seeming to somehow manage winning anything at home, but Boston being really close to last in the division I'll take any day...

At least Dice-K, whom you have blindly locked for life (for some reason, unexplainable to even the best baseball experts) had 1 good appearance in his last...what, 8?

I like the fact that they're closer to the top of the division than bottom, but they are "really close to last in the division "...

Both of those calls in the 9th were awful.

They need 2/3 of their starting OF back and the pitching is starting to come around. It's going to be hard to catch the Rays or Yanks, especially if the Rays stay healthy, but the Sox aren't done yet this season

It is going to be hard to catch either the Rays or Yanks, but the Yanks started off last year similar to the way the Sox started off this year. Papi has been hitting lately, Lester has been dealing and Ellsbury's nearing a return. Cameron is coming back pretty soon, but I wouldn't mind seeing him and Hermeida battle it out for the starting spot when Ellsbury returns. Beckett is still awful right now though, and Lackey has been less than stellar also.

To be fair, Cameron and Ellsbury combined don't equal the A-Rod the Yanks were missing last season. They also didn't sign Cameron to be in any type of platoon with Hermida.

Yeah, I was just saying it is possible. I can't count them out yet, but I think Theo is going to have to part with some prospects for a big middle of the order bat - regardless of what Ortiz does.

Hermida has been a great clutch hitter though and I wouldn't mind seeing what he can do with some consistent playing time when the team gets healthy. I wasn't a big fan of the Cameron signing to begin with though so I'm a bit biased.

Good first inning, Ortiz mashed that ball.

I don't think Theo is going to do much with prospects during the season. One big bat isn't going to push them past the Yanks or Rays by itself.

Will be on the Monster for the Twins game Wednesday, can't wait.

How in the hell did you manage to get those tickets?

Ortiz looks to be heating up right now. Hopefully that continues. Although Buccholz gave up 5 walks, it was a really good outing tonight coming off of that last Yankees one.

I apply to every ticket lottery they have. Was first row dead center last April for the Bay hr off Rivera and Youk's walk off in extras...Got 4 tickets at face value. Saw my first game there in 89. Try to go as often as I can afford it. Helps to have family within an hour of Boston.
