i have a spare intel core 2 duo mobile T5750 (http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLA4D) and i want to do something with it since i have some spare DDR2 desktop/laptop memory, too...all i need is a motherboard

the problem is that i'm confused about this Micro-FCPGA "package" type...is this processor socket P (mPGA478MT) or socket M (mPGA478MT) or socket 479?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_P
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_M
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_479

wikipedia says that socket P covers the T5xx0 processors and that socket M covers the T5x00 processors...not only does this confuse me because the socket M falls within the socket P, but i don't trust wikipedia

so what motherboards can i use? i found the ASUS N4L-VM for $35 shipped (http://3btech.net/asn4dhso479i.html), but it says socket 479 (which i thought was synonymous with socket P)...the socket P wikipedia page says that it has 478 pins but that it's not compatible with socket 478 or socket M but says nothing about socket 479

bah...anyone know more about this from experience?

Socket P is 478 pin and is equivalent to Micro-FCPGA.

Your processor should be socket P, which is the replacement for M. Unfortunately we got side tracked with the cash cow ATOM processors and P hasn't gone on to i series until just recently.

So, looks like you'll need one of those pricey boards to make it hum along.

Only 2 models available from Newegg

There is some noise floating around that Asus has a 479 to 478 converter (which if it's less than $100 it'll save you cash) but I can't seem to locate a legit one.

bah, i figured as much...it all goes back to this thread: message_topic.aspx?topic=564364

i had an EE friend replace the dc-dc chip and a bad capacitor, but it still won't work...one of the pads for the chip is missing (not sure how that happened), which is why he ran a wire directly from there to the cap

in any case, i still get the same thing i got before - laptop will turn on (lights come on and the cpu fan starts up), but nothing happens (no beeps, either)

i was hoping to make some use of the proc

you might try looking for a laptop motherboard... not exactly what you were looking for of course but at least you could put it in a different form factor?

^ well, as noted above, there are only a couple of set form factor mobos, which are $vermont

this same motherboard on ebay goes for $150+ and there's no guarantee that it works (who wastes money like that, anyway?)...i'd search CL for some busted laptops with socket P's, but that's kind of hard to do

meh, i don't care THAT much, i was just hoping it'd be easy
