Quote : | "At a town hall meeting, Coburn suggested that a woman who said "they can put us in prison" for not obtaining health insurance under the health care reform bill is misinformed.
"The intention is not to put anybody in jail," he said. "That makes for good TV news on Fox but that isn't the intention." ... "I'm 180 degrees in opposition to the speaker -- she's a nice lady," he said. The crowd could be heard responding unfavorably to his characterization.
"Come on now, she is a nice -- how many of you all have met her?" continued Coburn. "She's a nice person. She's a nice person."
"Just because somebody disagrees with you doesn't mean they're not a good person," he added. He then discussed his own experience of being vilified before asking the crowd not to "catch yourself being biased by Fox News that somebody's no good." " |

Looks like they may be starting to realize that embracing Fox News and Palin-esque not-jobbery might not actually help them. I'm sure this will make theDuke happy...4/6/2010 5:14:43 PM |

Fox News didn't make that up, that question has already been dodged by Nancy Pelosi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUkzV8h3Wp0

^^ yeah, i’m aware of Coburn’s positions.
But it looks like maybe they are trying to lead themselves, instead of letting Fox (and thus the tea-baggers) lead them. 4/6/2010 7:17:22 PM |

Alright. So the bill goes into effect. I refuse to buy health insurance. Then I refuse to pay the fine. What happens? I don't give a fuck what the intention is. I want to know what is actually going to happen. Are they just going to say, "Oh, well...that's cool I guess. You don't have to pay the fine." If that's the case, then no one is going to pay the fine. Prison is going to be the punishment if you resist this bullshit long enough.
Seriously man, I'm trying as hard as I can to be reasonable. I'm not a Fox news Republican. I don't see how you can justify this shit, though. 4/7/2010 12:02:05 AM |

RomneyCare has already been piloted in his state. Has there been a lot of imprisonment there with his individual mandate?

^^have you never heard of paycheck garnishing or liens on personal property?
i'm certainly not saying that people won't end up in jail for not paying their taxes correctly. but if you notice the senator carefully chose his words in such a way that he didn't deny it could happen also

"RomneyCare" is just as retarded as what we're about to get a federal level, and I certainly don't support it. In any case, this is how it works there:
Quote : | "2009 tax penalties for adults above 300% of the federal poverty level are based on 1/2 the cost of the lowest-priced Commonwealth Choice plan. They are:
* $52 each month or $624 for an entire year for individuals aged 18-26. * $89 each month or $1068 for the year for individuals 27 or older.
2009 tax penalties for adults at or below 300% of the federal poverty level are based on 1/2 the cost of the lowest-priced, government-subsidized Commonwealth Care plan available. They are:
* $0 for an individual earning up to $16,248 * $17 each month or $204 for the year for individuals earning between $16,249 and $21,660. * $35 each month or $420 for the year for individuals earning between $21,661 and $27,084. * $52 each month or $624 for the year for individuals earning between $27,085 and $32,496." |
So, apparently, they just take the money forcibly through the tax process. Now, let's say I'm self-employed, and I want to account for the fact that I don't want to pay the 500 dollar fine or whatever, and don't report 500 of my revenue. If the IRS found out, and you refused to pay the money, you'd go to jail. Has it happened in Massachusetts? I couldn't tell you.
In any case, this individual mandate is completely immoral. It punishes people for literally doing nothing. It's a punishment for inaction. How can anyone say this is a free country, at this point in time?

^sucks if you dont have employer provided health insurance, anybody below like 35 their insurance premiums will go up about 75% since they premiums of older people cannot be more than 3 times (I think) that of young people. So, to get around that, get ready for your health insurance (if you have to buy it yourself) to go sky high to pay for grandparents health insurance. This is just spreading the wealth.....
