The 58th National Hockey League All-Star Game is coming to Raleigh around the last week of January, 2011, January 30th.

The game will be announced by Gary Bettman and Jim Rutherford tomorrow afternoon at 12:30pm on the south lawn of the RBC Center.

Discuss.

Is this like the Pro-Bowl where the players don't give a fuck and play like little girls? Because I watched women's hockey, and it wasn't pretty

the game can get fun to watch in the final minutes if its close, otherwise its not much of a game. the skills competition is cool though.

Not only pricing for the ticket, but if you were to buy a ticket for the game does that also get you into the skills stuff on Saturday?

Of course this needed its own thread!!! I haven't been this excited about a hockey event since I scored tickets to Game 7 against Edmonton. Granted, they are far from the same, but I've always wanted to go to an All-Star hockey game since I first started watching/playing hockey!

Bettman, when reminding us that the Hurricanes have NC's only pro championship, snubbed the Tar Holes by conceding "I know all about Duke and NC State..."

^^ I think that was mainly because Duke just won, and then he was also sitting there looking at all the State logos on Carter-Finley and knowing they played there...

^ if they do it all it will be very limited to the public. STH are guaranteed a ticket, that's the only for sure way to get one...

you can get on the general public wait list here: http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=61883

Full-season and 26-game season-ticket holders are guaranteed tickets to the All-Star Game and Saturday night skills competition, although not necessarily in their regular season. Holders of 14-game packages can buy tickets to either the game or skills competition.

Definitely glad on the date this is all happening...it's all on my birthday weekend, and it happens to be my last weekend in Raleigh before I have to report to Fort Lee, VA.

Got my lower level ticket to the game already

So let me get this right, there is no East v West this year in the all-star game? I don't follow hockey too closely, but I heard something about this on the radio

Captains (to be chosen later) are picking teams like a fantasy draft. They're trying to do something different from the usual East/West format.

As of right now, you cannot buy a ticket unless you're a 12, 26, or full season ticket holder. My guess is that there will be some stray tickets left over that STHs don't claim, so you'll probably be able to buy one then.

I think the Skills Challenge tickets were around $35-50 each, and ASG tickets were somewhere between $50-150. Those prices will probably go up a bit if any are released to the general public.

The problem is that the NHL claims a shit load of the tickets, so there's not a ton left over.

"VERSUS will air All-Star Game Fantasy Draft

It was something that had been promoted in a bit of a flash during recent VERSUS games, but a network spokesman confirmed to Puck the Media this afternoon that VERSUS will air the NHL’s All-Star Game Fantasy Draft on Friday, January 28th.

It’ll mark a weekend of coverage, with VERSUS airing the unique fantasy draft on Friday, the Skills Competition on Saturday night, with the All-Star Game airing Sunday afternoon, do to the NFL Pro Bowl taking up primetime. VERSUS debuted a really impressive commercial for the classic featuring NHL players as superheroes during the Winter Classic.

Not 100% on who will be airing the draft in Canada, but I’ve been told by a couple of people that TSN will air the event up north."

The ASG commercials definitely look like they digitally added in buildings to the Raleigh skyline to make it look like some sort of megacity.
