^yeah, the Saviors were told/"shown" that Maggie was dead, and it wouldn't look good for Gregory if they found out she was alive

Yeah I think Gregory knows that Maggie has the support of the people and she could easily take his position of power since he didn't actually do anything of merit to attain it and he doesn't really offer anything to his people. Maggie was just working with people, showing them how to farm, teaching them useful skills, and they know she can protect herself and others. She's a GREAT candidate to be in a position of power there given her skills and likability.

Maggie knows Gregory is a joke and shits on him every chance she can. Her pointing out to the others that he has never killed a walker was strategic, and Gregory knows politics enough to understand that while she only said a few words, she basically crushed him in front of some of his people.

Gregory basically tells "Trevor" that someone is infringing on his position of power so now he's going to have him take care of Maggie since he isn't able to do it himself. Like someone pointed out, this could be asynchronous so he could potentially have told "Trevor" who told Negan, but I'm still not convinced of that one.

Also, for all we know, the Junkyard Gang could have sold out Rick and Co, nothing about those people seemed loyal or honest.

^ that makes sense. my thought was that either Gregory told Negan, or that Negan has a few scouts that have been following Rick and company while they go from settlement to settlement rounding up support. Guess we'll see

I don't think the junkyard people were the type to whisper something in Negan's ear, they would probably just want him to not know they were there, of course if Negan knew there was a group that big in the junkyard he might shit his pants.

I'm still thinking the next episode ends with the shot heard round the world or something like that

cry havoc, and let slip the dogs.... oh shit, we ate the dogs

^It wouldn't make sense if he did. After the note was found, he was suspicious of his ex-wife so he went to their old house to compare the handwriting on the note with some of her old handwriting. It wouldn't have had that whole scene if he had left the note.

I enjoyed the "twist" and the episode. Finally a season finale where the group is SOL but you know that we are on the precipice of change.

Yeah felt like the Junkyard people flipping was kind of obvious, nothing about them seemed dependable or trustworthy.

Dwight's wife left the note for Daryl before she ran. Dwight just left the little figurine to let them know that he's still on their side and he couldn't warn them because he didn't know. Would be a little surprising that he didn't know at all though considering his rank in the Negan Army, but who knows how information is provided.

No qualms with the way it ended, nice resolution to the first battle of the "war".

lol at the general ineptitude of the junkyard people. They had their guns literally aimed at the Alexandria folk and Rosita was the only one of the main cast who got shot? Carl literally shot three of them and not a single one of them got a shot off on him?

Also, lol at the tiger. Ezekiel had enough of a line of sight on Rick/Carl/Negan to order his cat to attack and they wait until the tiger leaps into action before firing a single shot? And not just that, the tiger attacks one of Negan's red shirts instead of Negan himself? If that whole group could clearly see Negan, why wouldn't they just start shooting immediately at him? I guess you could say they were worried about a stray bullet hitting Rick or Carl, but as soon as the tiger jumped on that guy they started shooting at them anyway...

^^agree, I'm pretty sure Dwight left the figurine but was also surprised he didn't know. Maybe he found out after he returned and couldn't do anything about it to warn them. If he was lying the whole time he wouldn't have dropped the trees in the road like he said he would.

^Agree with that too. I told my wife that way more good guys would have died in that sequence

Yep, a lot of suspension of disbelief to accept a lot of that episode. Supposedly there were 100+ scavengers, all with guns, and somehow Rick's people were able to get out of it? Kinda silly.

Do we know what the garbage people wanted from Negan?

The "12......ok, 10" bit. I thought maybe that was intentionally left in question, but I figure its more likely that i just missed something.

^^Without any context, maybe they wanted them as labor slaves of some kind? Kind of like the lower tier workers that Negan has at his camp? That would explain why the junkyard folks didn't want to actually kill them?

Maybe if Rick would have just agreed to throw her the D she would have stuck with them.

I kinda want the group to be done with hanging out down south. I want them to continue their journey . I want to see the remenants of the US government. Meet scientists working on cure again. Shit like that. If I was Rick's group I would have left Negans territory right after he murdered all my friends. Who would want to live under his thumb?

I mean, if you find a small community with a perimeter built, doesn't seem densely populated with walkers, has already built homes, running water, and FREAKING ELECTRICITY...hard to give that one up.

Obviously Negan is a game-changer, but we saw how hard they fought for a Prison that was overrun, have to imagine that anywhere worth living at this point is going to be on the radar of any survivors. So far they've definitely run into more crazies than good people left too.

I finally caught up with this show. I stopped after season 6.5.

I enjoyed seeing the walkers become a threat once again. Negan is a very hate-able villain. I really don't like him. I feel like Morgan plays him well, but I did get tired of his, as someone else put it, sing-song delivery.

Does the comic series ever give any backstory to Negan? Like what he did before "the change" and if he was like this back then?

I don't see how much longer the show can go one with these "villain of the season" formulas. It would be neat for something to take them into the Capitol and meet the people there - former lawmakers, statesmen, interns, etc, to see if somebody has attempted to draw up a new form of government or something. It would certainly add a bit of freshness to a tired series.

I'm also finding it harder and harder to swallow that there are still enough viable dead to compose herds large enough to be a threat. How long has it been since the outbreak? 5 years? 7? Unless there was some explanation somewhere that I missed that let us know that the walkers decompose slower than normal dead meat, there's no way any original zombie is still walking. And I just find it hard to believe, with the numbers in the settlements we've seen that there are still enough people dying to compose large herds.

^ someone did the numbers and there should be no more zombies left. Even if 90% of human population became zombies initially, the remaining humans should only have to kill 9 zombies each to eradicate the infected.

So all that talking and Rick didn't have a single sniper with crosshairs set on Negan? I guess he has a personal vendetta and all but I feel like he is more logical than absolutely having to be the one that kills him. Would have been a real curveball if Negan died in the first episode of the season though.

Hell, it looks like Dwight is on their side. He could have offed Negan in the back of the head while the snipers shot the other folks. At this point I feel like Dwight would rather die than serve him anyway.

Few things about last night's episode definitely annoyed me.

1. As pointed out, not shooting Negan while he was out in the open with multiple clean lines of sight is annoying. Felt really over-done that Rick has to be the one to take him down.

2. The smoke cloud looked really far off but that herd moved really fucking fast. Daryl seemed to be driving at normal speed with the herd out of sight and then the angle changed and there it was keeping pace.

3. Negan was so far ahead of Rick and Co. when they setup the barricades and funneled the RV and they had so many people to orchestrate that...seems really suspect that they'd allow them to setup explosives along the route leading up to their HQ. I know it showed them picking people off, but they clearly have radios and I'm assuming they do regular check-ins so they'd need time to set all of those explosives up.

^^And get out of here with that GOT crap, this past season they took some awful fucking liberties too but you just ignore the dumb shit and keep plugging along because the payoff is worth it.

I was thinking I would prob bail after they killed Negan

Then I thought they prob think alot of people will take that approach so they'll just keep dragging it out 3 more seasons.

So I guess I should stop now and just read a recap later, decisions...

(I also finally quit on FTWD)

No way Negan should make it longer than half this season. If they drag it out for longer, it will be obvious what they're doing.

I'm ready for them to move on and find something like a group of people in DC trying to resurrect the US Government, or a group of scientists somewhere close to a cure.

Or maybe they could get Milla Jovovovitch to make a guess appearance in her Alice getup.

^I mean she basically moved to the Hilltop last season because of the doctor and they made it pretty heavy-handed that she was slowly taking control and winning people over.

I'd say if they make it back to Hilltop with any survivors they're all going to poison the well for Gregory and he's unlikely to stay in power. Hard to threaten your own people with the safety of their loved ones and still hold favor with the people in the community.

Basically Gregory wants to be on the winning side, at first he thought Rick would do it, but now he thinks its Negan, but its obvious that the Hilltop doesn't stand with him

It was a performance by Gregory, he didn't exactly go out there and break a leg
If anyone wants to stand with him now, they must have lost their head
