The problem is they already want Daryl to be the "lead" on the show. They've reportedly offered Reedus $20 million/season to be the face of the show.

I just don't see anyway this ends well.

I can't imagine Reedus as a lead man.

Don't get me wrong, I like Darryl as much as the next guy. But can grunting and pensive staring carry a show?

Yeah I actually think Maggie would be a better lead than Daryl.

Though it's interesting they've been having a very public contract battle with Lauren Cohan for over a year(thus less Maggie on screen and why she's been filming other pilots), they get rid of Khorl, now they're losing Lincoln, and instead of spreading the wealth and locking down as many main characters as they can, they throw $20 million at Norman Reedus.

Just end the series and take that money and invest it in Fear The Walking Dead, at least that show is still interesting.

The trailer is out, not sure what to make of it

I wonder how the group reacts to Rick not being there, will it make them lose their heads

does someone else step up and mark their own territory as far being a leader?

this is so far from the comics now, who knows?

speaking of far from the comic, a lot of that episode was right out of the comics

although after Gregory lost his head, he tried to poison Maggie in order to establish his territory

I like the attempted assassin deal better

a good first episode, we will see what follow

I'm really getting tired of the same old running gag each episode where the group is just doing something in the middle of nowhere on a road and out of fucking no where comes a small herd of zombies.

They use this route regularly and they clear it each time they go down it, where would this small herd have come from? They clearly were able to take out the entire group AFTER dude was bitten, WHY did they not just dispatch of them initially and not have to worry about breaking things or having to leave behind things they "needed"?

Getting a little played out as they continue to feel the need to add random "threats" like this, when in reality you'd think at most you'd have 2 or maybe 3 that would have roamed up together. The timing just didn't make much sense.

I wasn't too happy with the episode either. Don't be mad at Maggie for your son's death. He'd still be alive if he hadn't tried to save the horses. Of course, I would agree that it shouldn't have been too hard to protect the cargo/horses from the walkers.

I liked the way this episode was paced, its obvious they are building towards something, but it kinda has a different feel to it

that one dude lost his head when the kid knocked him over, but Darryl was quick to mark his territory as the one in charge

I liked this episode, except for that negan shit at the end

now tell me how it sucked and how the show must end now

Not the worst episode, and I like how they're slowly building the new villain(whatever it is).

We saw people "deserting" last episode, then this episode more appearing to go missing rather than desert. Even with the fuel from Sanctuary going missing, and reminding us there was a helicopter(though how in the hell did NO ONE else see or hear this thing?).

Also...if you have a SUPER important job that could risk the lives of MANY people and your entire project....why are you trusting a guy that has proven to be defiant, selfish, and untrustworthy? WHY would you pick him of all of the able-bodied people on the premises?

rick: he's an asshole but we need to keep him around because he's a big strong guy and we need him for physical labor
also rick: let's put him on guard duty that is really important but doesn't require physical feats of strength

Ok so the Oceanside ladies lost their head and took some saviors to their old territory for revenge

And it's all Maggie's fault

I got nothing, hopefully something down the line helps this episode make sense

Episode was OK, nothing special but certainly not the worst.

Only big eye-rolling moment I had was when the building was boarded up for at least several months and it contained the zombies just fine and the MOMENT the girl falls through the board they rip right through it like it was nothing. That part made absolutely no sense and felt completely unnecessary, just forced "tension", not like we cared what happened to that girl.

Also...was it just me or did the guy(Kal) riding in the wagon with Maggie look an awful lot like Glenn? He even had the same mustache/chin fuzz that Glenn was rocking down the stretch.

Really hoping they don't have Rick die showing Daryl that they need to work together to move forward. Feels like the only way to really push Daryl across as the new leader, but just seems like a cliche way for Rick to go.

The all of a sudden bursting through the wall with ease was a little bit of an eye roll, but it didn’t bother me too much. She did make a loud noise which would have made the walkers much more excited and put even more pressure on the door, but it was def exaggerated how it just exploaded open.

^I mean, was her breaking the board any louder or more enticing than that sheet of metal on the roof banging and all the walkers standing outside trying to get to it?

Just seems to be a running ordeal in this show where they make extreme reaches to garner some type of tension/threat from walkers and it's actually taking away from the show. The zombies are probably the least interesting thing about the show at this point save for giant herds as everyone has been around long enough to be able to defend themselves.

Though for some off the beaten path places they've been frequenting lately, they're sure finding a lot of damn zombies still hanging around.

^Not just that, zombie that are in decent shape meaning that they all had to die long after the original breakdown of society.

So at this point, why is nobody learning how to make/use a damn bow an arrow? Yeah it prob has a steep learning curve to be able to hit a moving target in the head but they can be made from lots of the resources they already have, they are completely silent, and their ammo is reusable.

It seems more of a build up to ending Rick's story

It was indirectly set up by Maggie losing her head and Rick rushing to mark his territory

I'm guessing he hallucinates most of the next episode we shall see

Definitely just a setup episode, and we'll get an entire episode of Rick dying this week.

This show just kills me with these awful setups.

1. You have Rick and Daryl fight and somehow roll into a pit.
2. Have the Saviors just roll in and start a fight at that exact moment, but still not sure how they discovered it was Hillside doing the killing.
3. Horse just magically runs off and runs RIGHT to Rick.
4. Rick gets out just in time to see the herd approaching but enough time to get on his horse.
5. The 2 two herds then just magically hit the crossroad at the SAME TIME.
6. Rick's faithful steed decides it's spooked and throws Rick off, but not just anywhere, right onto random rubble and exposed rebar.
7. The horse was so scared that in the pan-out shot, the horse is just standing right next to an injured Rick waiting.

Just horrible decision-making from the writers of this episode, could have found a better way to put Rick in mortal danger.

^lol that pit made me laugh. What the hell is a gigantic pit doing on the side of the road like that? No way anyone could build a pit of that size without some construction tools or evidence of something, so it had to be leftover from before the apocalypse? How did it not fill with water/eventually cave in over the past however many years? That pit was at least 20 ft high and they didn't land on their legs, they didn't even bruise a rib or anything?

And that thing with the horse, okay so he sees two herds coming at him and a mound of rubble blocking his escape. It didn't cross his mind to just get off the damn horse and climb over the rubble? It wasn't that steep. If it was enough to not allow the horse to pass, it would have slowed down the zombies substantially. All he really needs is a brisk walk to outpace them anyway. Also, why is there just a pile of rubble on the road? I guess it could be leftover from some of the various explosions that were set off at different points, but that would be a pretty strong coincidence.

What a cop-out. I guess they have to leave it open for him to come back and save the day in the final episode. Although it looks like it cut forward like 5 yrs so he'd have to essentially be held prisoner for that time to stopped from coming back to Alexandria.

So when the bridge exploded, there were like 30 people right there. How did NOT A SINGLE PERSON see/hear the helicopter that was landing. Rick was still (somehow) alive on the river bank so it couldn't have been more than a few mins after the explosion.

That episode was hard to swallow, but whatever, I've gotten used to it with this show.

The helicopter/Jadis thing was the most interesting part of the season so far, and it's a little frustrating that it will have nothing to do with the rest of the show and just be used for a spin-off series of "movies".

The time-jump is the right move for the show, as I think it will give some sense of stability and setup for the new big-bad. Really liked the little teaser of The Whisperers, hopefully they can do a better job with this storyline.

I just don't know how they expect these "movies" to work. I can't imagine them taking Rick anywhere short of the North Pole and it taking him 6+ years to get back to his family. Though I will say that Judith has a lot of potential, hoping she can turn into the character Carl should have been.

Loving the emergence of Carol The White.

Gabriel and Rosita seems so forced it is painful.

Eugene finally grew a pair of nuts, but the rate at which this group of elite survivors is "surprised" by a herd is absolutely mind-boggling. Ambient noise should be minimal and you are fairly high up with a pretty long sight-line, yet you're completely oblivious until they're right on top of you... *sigh*.

Judith has potential of being a good character, and I really like the rapport between her and Negan.

Kudos to the deaf lady who made it this far, that's actually very impressive given the environment she's living in.

Agreed, that is really annoying. Anyone who has made it this far should NEVER be caught off guard by zombies. Also, I'm not entirely sure how survivors aren't better long distance runners now. Considering that even the fastest zombie we've seen can only really shamble at a walking pace, a quick jog through the woods (to the point where the zombies can't see you anymore) should be enough to get you to safety.

Anyway, as soon as the horses took off, Rosita should have just climbed up the tower. No way the herd would have seen them up there and would likely have just passed through. The horses were the only reason to get out of there quickly.

It's amazing how in some scenes, the horses are unfazed and just stand around, even as a herd is mere feet away. But when it's convenient, despite being tied up, a herd over 100 feet away is enough to spook 2 horses into running away.

^I thought that Eugene dropping the backpack from the tower was what spooked them? Regardless, it's kind of silly that horses that are used to hearing gunshots/explosions and running from zombies would get spooked so easily.

Yeah the best was Rick's horse. It was so startled that it threw him off and impaled him on random rubble/rebar, but then the spooked horse just hung out right next to him while both herds were moving towards him, the same herds that terrified him just moments before. Lazy writing.

So now I only care about the dog. Great.

Also...if you have 6-8 years in a location, seems like you wouldn't have nearly as many mini-herds or stragglers as this group seems to run into regularly.

so Rosita got away from the walkers, but they were saying they found her, but the people at the hilltop will think she lost her head

and it looks like some communication has broken down between the communities, with patrols out marking their territories

It's clear Michonne and Maggie had a huge falling out, and with Tara on Maggie's side it makes sense she'd also hate Michonne.

Will be interesting to see what all happened and if they go back and show it. But Carol seems like a neutral party between 2 sides that had a huge issue.

Although I feel like Michonne's character has become so flat and just boring. I could do without her for a bit, her character just brings nothing to the table right now.

So Negan's cell was just randomly left unlocked? They don't have anyone double checking that thing or any other kind of thing to make sure he is still in there?

Also, are all the new "intelligent" zombies just normal humans wearing a mask? Kind of removes the whole "evolution" thing all together if so.

Yeah, definitely not an evolution of zombies.

It's people wearing zombie masks and blending in(controlling) the herd.

But it makes sense for Eugene to come to that conclusion, as I'm sure the thought of people dressing up and living among the zombies never even crossed his mind.

^I mean, to be fair it looked like Daryl did that intentionally so at least someone is paying attention to him and overlooking the entire relationship.

Whisperers have been good so far, just feels like the show is skidding a bit in terms of story-telling and character development.

It's really strange that the only characters I'm remotely interested in or concerned about are Judith, Dog, and, maybe, Negan.

Though is it just me or did the episode look like it covered 2 different timelines?

^I was a little confused on the timelines too actually. Michonne/Aaron/Darryl went out to find Eugene. They were gone a while, so they sent out a second crew to find them. First crew came back while second crew was out. Now second crew is lost.
