zombie suit is a good idea, disgusting and rank but good idea nonetheless haha

and what's with them being able to turn knobs and use rocks and shit.. these advanced zombies, "zombies 2.0"?

I find it hard to believe that they hadn't already broken out that fire axe and used it as a melee weapon.

wow, a 2nd episode was just awesome. I too am wondering about these "smart" zombies, but it seems as though only a few of them out of the horde have motor skills, like the one zombie that was able to climb the fence. Well running zombies make for a much more deadly foe in my books and definitely got me off the edge of my seat. Zombie suit was a good idea, but damn, that part was graphic as hell. Very surprised they showed so much on cable tv.

And boo to the racist too. Horrible character, you'd think shit like that would dissolve when shit hits the fan. Also, go asian kid! Driving the challenger like a pro... :p Kinda comical of him driving down the highway with the alarm still on.

Not to be nit picking, but it does seem a little "convenient" for the sheriff to find a random group of survivors in the city looting for supplies to be part of the same group where his partner, wife and son is with... Specially after the 2nd episode.

2nd episode wasn't as good as the 1st - I just don't really like any of the characters at this point, other than the main guy. All the new characters introduced were forgettable, the racist dude was annoying, his partner is a bitch, and his wife is pathetic.

I really like the look and feel of the show but I hope it gets better plot/character-wise (which I'm expecting it to, based on all the praise for the comics)

The crew emphasizes that George Romero's movies are a huge influence on the filming and he has pretty well established that zombies have limited learning abilities. Although I don't remember there being much tool use in the comic so I hope it's not an aspect that keeps resurfacing. The first two episodes have been outstanding! I'm very pleased so far.

Romero zombies definitely exhibit small amounts of intelligence (see: Day of the Dead). It seems to me that not too many of the zombies were actually using tools... there was only like one of them hitting the door with the rock. Only one of them climbed the fence too so perhaps there are different types of zombies that we haven't experienced yet? So far they have only been referred to as "walkers" so perhaps there are some faster ones and some smarter ones too, but they are just not as common?

I think it's important to consider that even those using tools/advanced motor skills aren't doing so with any real coordination or consciousness. If you give me a rock like the one the zombie had, I'm pretty sure that I could make short work of a plate glass door.

Also, is anyone else thrilled about having some Sunday night television to look forward to? It's a pretty cool way to end the weekend.

Liked the episode...not quite as emotionally gripping as the first, but it still had its share of moments.

...as far as the zombie intelligence goes, I feel like this area is the same in all movies/shows with enthusiastic fan groups. You see a few films that establish a given world, character, etc, and assume that it's now a closed world that nothing can be changed in. While it was a little jarring to see a zombie with a rock in its hands using it to smash, or one turning a door knob, it adds an interesting twist (which is no more implausible than some of the crazy ass special zombies in things like left 4 dead and red dead redemption).

So far (as has already been pointed out), the "intelligent" ones look to be more of a rarity than the standard, and the "intelligent" things they're doing have all been fairly basic (with the exception, possibly, of the ones that climbed the fence in the construction yard).

Aside from that, I was just waiting for the moment that the teen driving the muscle car wide open on the freeway was going to eat it by crashing into something then suddenly get devoured.

Definitely...the fact that galaxy is airing each episode makes it even better. So far they've gone 2 for 2 on solid presentations, and I've gone 2 for 2 in weeks where I won a prize from trivia

Sunday night has been filled with great TV - Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, and East Bound and Down.

Why does AMC love whorish wives. (BB, MM, and this)

See, I've never really watched Sunday TV since way back when Simpsons was the thing to catch. Oddly enough, I've been watching Dexter but DVDs via Netflix instead of catching the episodes. I'm still in season four.

I guess I meant more that I have a reason to stay up and watch TV.

Pretty good episode. Not as good as the first, but still very entertaining.

The cliched racist character was unnecessary and lame. The writers copped out on that one.

i loved the asian dude (Glenn) tearing ass down the highway at the end and him loving every second of it. that would so be me haha. and did anyone else notice the car window that was smashed in was definitely not the same car that he was driving? not that big of a deal, just something i thought was cheesily done.

in all retrospect, the 2nd episode is so far beyond reality for the simple fact that the asian could drive... and driving a muscle car... lol

I too agree with the new characters being "forgettable" except for the Asian. Why are they forcing a drama conflict when there's already a pretty serious conflict between humans and zombies... Also, I was expecting the sheriff to use the grenade to distract the zombies. Wanted to see some explosions.

I feel like without any human conflict the story would feel flat. It was sort of a hamfisted way of handling it, but stressful situations lead to conflicts within groups that are collaborating. I think that humanizes aspect is something they're working at, e.g. the sheriff reading of the contents of zombie suit's wallet.

most definitely, I'm sort of hoping they subvert it with some detail that fleshes out his flat character (a la Woody Harrelson's character in Zombieland)

would be nice, but probably not gonna go that route. Woody's performance was priceless in Zombieland, but he was more geared towards funny serious, not stupid racist serious. Plus the tone of the two is completely different.

I did like the cut scene of the black dude loosing the key down the small down pipe. Also, why was the tool box relocated? It was near the edge of the building early on when he first got cuffed to the pipes, but then showed later on, on the catwalk.

From next episode's preview, it looks like his brother is part of the group of survivors at the base camp, so I imagine that'll stir things up. Obviously, with the tool box getting tripped over, we all know he's going to find a way to get loose...so I suppose we'll see some sort of rescue attempt.

Maybe both brothers will get eaten like that horse, then there won't be an issue anymore.

I predict Rick will catch up with his wife and find out she was cheating before he even went to the hospital. They'll make Andrea out to be this great person throughout the whole series and he'll end up with her. Total guess though.

^^ Maybe not premature in a money making sense, which of course is all that matters. Labeling this a great show would be; once again not that it matters.
