I need to make a movie of me doing something on my computer. Can someone recommend some free screen capture software?

Thanks

i've used Fraps in the past, but other people might have better suggestions than that.

CamStudio

Free, Open Source. It's only caveat is that it uses software realtime compression - so if you go Xvid you'll need a 2.4Ghz+ C2D to pull off 720p or better. Other than that GREAT software.

webex. you can narrate over the phone, export to a ton of nice containers/codecs (including flash), they do the storage, and they do the deployment.

Snag-it Pro is pretty good.

It's "Free" if you know what I mean.

You can download a full version of the program off torrent sites. The full version comes with a text file that contains a serial number. You can use this serial number to register the full version of the program.

Are you implying that God would do something illegal?

No, just wondering why I've been paying for software when I could have been getting it for free all along. I belong in the tales of the technically inept thread.

You can also use Expression Encoder to do this. If you're recording low-delta video (like a tutorial of a piece of productivity software), you can go REALLY high resolution with a tiny file size.

I've been really impressed with it, enough to finally give up Windows Media Encoder and Camtasia.

hey wwwebsurfer, do you know if CamStudio records on-machine audio as well? i had a student in my office today, asking about recording something on his desktop, including some playing music.
