play with about 4-5 diff friends online. pretty fun. its a big grindfest, but if you dont mind that the monster battles are definitely a nice mix of challenge and fun.

im slaying the royal ludroth atm

i had him weak and was workin him but fuckin time expired on my quest so i failed it

hes a load though, the first large monster you have to fight underwater

i like the hammer and the switch axe, so im probably going to roll with those two but neither are helping me much fighting the royal ludroth underwater

yeah blocking is nice underwater, but i managed to do it with a hammer.

just wait until you start fighting some of the other monsters, they are even more annoying to solo either underwater or if you miss with a huge swing of either weapons.

I'm playing it. Haven't ventured online yet, trying to get a good feel for combat/combining/weapons/etc.

A buddy mentioned that the controls were much easier to get used to with the classic controller, so I ordered one (pro version) and should have it tonight.

haven't tried any weapons except sword n board. I can't imagine using anything slower.

also no target locking is only slightly annoying.

The power of that damn hammer is addicting tho

plus you can block while using it, and it stuns alot

but you have to put it away to use items. I use the wii remote, but i definitely want to get the controller before goin online

how are you blocking with the hammer chief.

btw SnS is pretty underpowered by comparison. sure you are faster, but almost every other weapon does a helluva lot more dmg. leaves a lot more opportunity to die by accident.

the trigger button on the nunchuck

its a lot more effective blocking than the sword and shield, with that i still get freakin annihalated

but with the sword and shield it is alot easier to get the finishing kill, its impossible to chase down and finish a retreating monster with the hammer or switch axe, you have to kill them in their home lair pretty much or in the middle of a combo

good for trapping tho (which is freakin driving me up the wall btw)

hammers tough to use but it does pwn face. right now we have 1 guy with each big weapon. great sword, switch axe, hammer, long sword.

few of them switch to other tho. lance seems pretty pwn for single player with its massive block but sux when monster isnt on you (opposite is true for the bigger weapons).

i hate the lance because it seems like randomly the strike is directed straight up in the air

but then again maybe its another reason i need a pro controller

aye, theres front strike and up strike. with wiimote ur probably tilting a bit to cause it to upstrike (which does more dmg with worse range).

bttt

funny...I am now a full Lance user and occasionally I will use the hammer in special cases(had to use it to beat gigginox)

I use a classic controller now and man can i pick my shots well and hit targets

also with that damn nunchuk i kept running away from monster and randomly fuckin start catching bugs when there is a Lagiacrus electric deathrolling towards me (this was what finally made me switch to the controller)

I am almost done with the five star quests, but I am definitely at the most harrowing stretch (failed at my first attempt to kill rathalos due to time expiry) all i have left is to kill uragaan (i think capture as well), rathalos, barioth (im afraid of this battle big time, seen the vids on youtube), agnaktor, and diablos i believe. and then the end boss im sure

after that im goin online!

and this is a game that has no shortage of dragons to fight AND every battle is different and exciting......

a great video of a boss fight that shows how crazy this game can be is at the bottom beneath the lengthy strategy

i will speak from experience in saying that not every battle is different and exciting. the different creatures are fun to fight the first few times, but online with a few friends you end up just grinding the same monsters over and over again.

you end up avoiding certain ones unless you want the armor because they take 2x as long and have a high failure rate for almost no extra reward.

The monsters do feel alive, but some have very cheap moves that you sometimes get hit by for seemingly no reason. It ends up being very frustrating, particularly since with 4 ppl you can only have 3 deaths.

Once you get to lvl 30 or so you run out of new monsters and start back at the Great Jaggi, cept now he does 2x as much dmg. That's when I quit.

nah i feel you, its like u said earlier it is a huge grindfest excpet right now i cant effectively FARM anythign other than jaggis so it isnt pedestrian yet

i cant wait to get that good tho

just all equipment. the jaggies dont get a great deal of more hp so even if he does do 2x the dmg you can still kill him in like 5 minutes. but when he gets one lucky lunge off you die instantly.
