First chance of the year. Probably way too early too have something too organized, but I figured I'd get this thread started.

Hopefully the West Pacific storms will be at a minimum. North Atlantic storms I don't mind so much.

Will we have Hurricane Alex by the end of today??

Looks like it won't really impact the US. Mainly Mexico.

Nothing too big, but it could provide some issues with pushing the oil slick back towards the coast quicker..

^^more than likely it'll help the situation, quickening the natural dispersal of the oil in the water.

I love how this TS is getting a lot of attention already...seems the news organizations are always hungry for this shit.

Earl is Category Four, expected to hit Five.

"North Carolina's Cape Hatteras is still in the bulls-eye for the closest landmass to Earl's trajectory."

So my hometown.

Fuck it.

get things ready, I have a feeling Earl is gonna hit.

showing it brushing now...the more it stays on this same track and doesnt hang a more northerly path the more chance we get a hit.

I often wonder if it makes me a bad person to love to follow these and hope they make landfall in the US. I have family in New Bern but other than that nothing in the real danger zone of these things and I know they really hurt people on the coast, but I like them

"From Hyde County Emergency Management - 1 pm, Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Swell from Earl will begin to arrive late today with seas building to small craft advisory levels by Wednesday. The large swell will enhance the rip current threat starting today. Based on the current track, seas up to 20 feet are probable in the coastal waters. Even if the track remains offshore, breakers on the Outer Banks could be up to 15 ft. Overwash issues are likely on the Outer Banks ocean side Thursday night after midnight, peaking between midnight and 6 AM Friday. High tide will be around 230 AM.

Not at all. After experiencing Hugo in Charlotte in 1989 I've been a huge advocate from more tropical storm/hurricane experience. I've even been entrenched in longstanding tussles with folks who can't comprehend why someone would wish for a hurricane to make landfall. They always say something stupid like "When you have a house and a car you'll understand." But if anything going 14 years without a decent storm only makes me want it more. Material things can be replaced. The awing thrill of experiencing one of the most powerful, and very necessary, forces on Earth is priceless.

While I dont advocate or hope that a storm hits land, I have no control over it. So if it is going to happen Im gonna make the best of it and enjoy it for what it is .

Pat, hit me up if you do come out.

Rumor is the weather channel folks said that their models are having trouble telling when the storm will swing north. As of now its due around Cape Hatteras early Friday morning as a cat3.

They're meeting to determine if they're going to evacuate Ocracoke too.
