what a douchebag, making fun of Obama's daughter. Consider yourself officially called out. I don't care if he did "apologize." He showed his true colors yesterday.

I don't see how this is unusually more dumb that most of the other things GB says?

Sure, it's dumb, but who cares? This is what we expect from the right.

It's only marginally more stupid than most of what Sarah Palin says, and probably smarter than what most of what Hannity says.

OK lets be fair here. Its not right for anyone to attack the families of any political figure, but dont sit there and pretend the left does not do the same thing you're upset at Beck for. Palin's family was attacked, as was Bush's family. I mean just look at David Letterman. Hell, you have people protesting bank execs at their homes and threatening their families. Fact of the matter is, it is wrong when anyone does it but you should have the intellectual honesty to condemn it no matter who attacks someones family rather than the issues.

I was equally appalled when the left attacked palin's daughter. it doesn't excuse GB being a douchebag, so don't act like it does

and, for the record, you might want to search the forums and see how I called them out on it then, too.

I think this is the first time I have ever been accused of being a left-wing shill, lol

I'm pretty sure that aaronburro would definitely do that.

At any rate, what the other side does is irrelevant. Fuck Glenn Beck. He's a ridiculous douchebag.

Glenn Beck is a pretty big douche for doing this. As far as the Palin comments are concerned regarding her family, while i do not think its ethical I do at least think that some of the attacks on her family were credible.

She was the outspoken GOP figure running as VP in 2008 who proudly waved her stance on abstinence only sex education and family morals yet her own daughter is getting knocked up out of wedlock at 17 by some self-described "fucking redneck."

On the other hand mocking obama daughter in regards to the absolute catastrophe in the Gulf has NO relevance to Obama's political viability.

Glenn Feck's job is to sell advertising. To do that, he needs ratings. To get them, he needs viewers. To get viewers, he needs to say provocative shit. In short, this just draws attention to him, which brings profits and success.

What a fucked up way to make a buck.

Yeah, that's the problem with cable news channels. It's gotten to the point where the constant stream of information and discussion is a constant stream of useless information and discussion.

probably not much more of a tizzy than he effects whenever he talks about anything...

but if it makes you feel happy to think he would take something like that seriously, after Obama himself as well as other high ranking members mentioned Glenn Beck specifically, go right ahead.

Not trying to defend Beck here... but if Obama doesn't want people to attack his family, maybe he shouldn't bring them up at his press conference(s).

He can have all of the father moments he wants to, just don't try to get sympathy by using your kids in your press conference. Seems to me like there is a double standard here... I can use my child as a way to get support, but it's not fair to use my child against me. I think he should have been called out for this but Beck did it in a very childish and moronic way.

All he did was mention that she'd asked him a question. I think most people with children are going to be able to relate to that, especially when that child's question is about something that's hard.

There's no need for him to be "called out" for anything.

Come on! You know as well I do when he said "Daddy, did you plug the hole?" that he was trying to get sympathy from the American public. If you don't want your family involved in politics then don't bring them in when it's convenient for you.

I feel very sorry for you. Please set aside your dislike of the man for a moment and let him express some humanity, rather than assuming literally everything out of his mouth is a political statement.

ideally, I think familiar status, anecdotes and criticisms should be completely off limits and irrelevant to the political conversation. realistically, your family is such a huge part of your support structure and life it would be impossible to not reference them on occasion. it just should not be overused and I dont think Obama has done that.

as an exception to this, I do think having an affair or cheating on your spouse is a huge reflection of a person's character and that does have an impact when I form an opinion about a politician.

FWIW, and I haven't seen the clip in question, when you get to the level of POTUS it's pretty much a given that everything out of your mouth when cameras are rolling is a political statement.

I said nothing about what he is or isn't allowed to have. I simply pointed out the fact that when you are that high up in politics and the cameras are rolling that there is a vanishingly small chance that the things you say aren't scripted, planned or vetted before they ever come out of your mouth. Again, I haven't seen the clip in question, but if you were to take any given video clip of Obama speaking, you would be much richer if you bet that whatever he was saying was scripted / vetted as opposed to off the cuff. And I would say the same thing about any high level politician.

To be honest that's a bad thing. I think we would be a lot better off if our politics were less theater and more honesty, but that's what you get when "politician" is a career.

On another note, you should perhaps tone down your sensitivity a bit. Just because someone points out a truth does not make them a heartless or maladjusted person.

i think in times of great national tragedy presidents and politicians become just an american and not a republican or democrat
thats why everyone rallied around Bush after 9/11

Even then I think there's a level of politiking involved. Not in the evil manipulative sense, but in more of a "we need a leader to take charge" sense. I think that's why there was so much bullshit over how long it took to get Bush out of the school, and why Obama is getting so much shit now. Because unlike what the politicians will tell you and unlike how we paint history, heroes and leaders are rarely the same as politicians. Heroic actions happen because every day people find the strength within them to go above and beyond, and when you're a political figure, locked away in your tower of aides and handlers you suddenly realize just how little power you have, and so the only thing left to do is talk big. In fact I would go so far as to say that if you looked through history, you would find more of the hero politicians were heroes before they were politicians than were politicians first.

Obama knows that he really can't do anything about the spill. Sure he can order the national guard and the Army COE on the job, just like bush could have scrambled fighters and such, but ultimately it wouldn't make a difference. The COE and NG would defer to the same experts and scientists that BP is deferring to now and the fighter jets would never have intercepted in time or would have been forced to shoot down the planes in the first place (do you want to be the man who gives that order?). So our politicians talk, and they appear just like almost every other american, because honestly they are; helpless and unable to make a real difference.

I feel sorry for you to not recognize when to lighten up yourself. You've made it a point to view his statement about his daughter's question through a political lens. Not everything said by a politician is automatically political. I'd hope you'd realize that, and allow the man to be a father once in a while. But maybe I'm hoping for too much.
