Anyone in here have the skills to help me out?? Google told me to do this:

Quote :
"If you have a battery charger, you could go underneath the vehicle and hook the positive cable to the positive lead on your starter, and ground the ground to the frame.
"Make sure the positive lead is not touching any part of the frame or the starter, except the positive lead". "

But I was dumb enough to buy a focus, so I doubt I could handle that without exploding myself. Supposed to be at work in 10 minutes. I live near Garner High School off Grovemont.

this is a serious answer. google says no, but I wouldn't know because I have no key. My ignition is all fucked up and I almost broke the key in it one day so the key stays in the ignition and i use the key fob. key fob battery is good. i even put something in the window crack and tried to push the damn lock and it would not open.

I know, I'm a fucking retard, should have gotten that fixed, but I have zero money, just finally got a job, and now I can't go

you implied in the first post that you have a battery charger, but you are too afraid of exploding yourself to use it

now that the doors are unlocked, you could use the charger to jump start the car, amirite?

Get one of those I think its VWs that have the box thingy you have to have in plus a key to start the car.

Most newer keys as they have computer chips in them for verification, are very flimsy.

For the OP, electronic lock systems normally need electricity. The fobs dont wirelessly also provide power for the locks to work. This is also why you have 2 keys for your car.

^^ nothing like that from the factory on vws. the stuff ~2000+ does have immobilizer, which is a microchip in the key. there are ways to get around that, tho.

for Quinn from me and my sister! I now have a valet key, although from what I've been reading it won't help. if the batter is completely dead, my locks won't open from the outside. fun stuff. WTG, ford. who decided this was necessary?

I can now, but from what I've been reading if your locks are all electronic then using the key still won't unlock it when the battery is dead. All the key does is connect a circuit or whatever that electronically unlocks the doors.

i don't believe it...i can't believe a car manufacturer, even ford, would design a car that simply could not be gotten into without a slim jim if the doors are locked and the battery is dead

I don't know for sure, I just read it on the internets so it must be true?!

Actually, from what I'm reading, it looks like the focus has lots of issues with lock barrels and keys and ignitions all wearing down, and a common problem is for the key to wear down in the ignition, and when you have to use the key to unlock a door, instead of the fob, the key doesn't fit right. so i'm guessing most of what I read about the key not working is probably people putting 2 and 2 together to make 5.

All you really need is enough power to get the door unlocked - I'd revisit the idea of going underneath, but with a jumper cable and another vehicle.

Just clamp the ground side of a jumper cable to something metal on the frame or engine, and the positive side to the alternator output, fuse/relay box input, anything that carries an unswitched +12v. That should energize the system so that someone with the valet key or fob can unlock the door.

how in the hell did you break your key off in the ignition?

what good is a valet key if it can't unlock the door?

there just seems to be a lot of facepalm going on here.

Ford actually made a valet key for the Focus? It seems like the Focus owners would be valet instead of using valet service.

What good is a thread if you don't read it?

Anyway, I didn't break it off, it bent, hence the word almost. Google Ford Focus Ignition and you will find out why. (especially 2002-2004) And the only reason a valet key might not unlock the door is if the battery is dead. I had no valet key at the time my battery was dead, so I was just going off what people were writing in forums which may or may not be true. My new valet key CAN unlock the door. I needed an outside jump because I had no key, just the key fob, which would not unlock the doors when my car battery was dead. It's all fixed now, though, so no worries.

my saturn wears out keys with the quickness...i eventually had to go to the stealership and get a new one made because the old one, while it would turn on the car, couldn't be duplicated

now i just keep the stealership copy in pristine condition and get a new one made for $3 every year or so
