Saw a teaser for this last night before True Blood. I love Medieval stuff and time period dramas. This could be pretty sweet!

Quote :
"Game of Thrones is an upcoming medieval fantasy television series for HBO based on author George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels, with David Benioff and Dan Weiss attached to write and executive produce. Starring Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, the pilot episode was greenlit to go to series on March 2, 2010. HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo had previously stated that the series would likely debut in Spring 2011"

This thread is viable. As brought to my attention by the OP and CalledToArms

Quote :
"1) most people won't find the thread since that thread is titled after the books and not the title of the tv show
2) the song of ice and fire thread has some spoilers in it and such since most posters in there have read the books and as much as I love the books, I would hate to ruin some of the best spoilers for people who have not read the books and just watch the show.
3) I'd like a place to just discuss the TV show separately by season (like we do with Dexter, etc.)

resurrected by our weblord and tww saviour qntmfred.

As stated by Jeepin4x4, for those of us who have read the books, lets try to keep this thread completely spoiler free. Especially keep that in mind when the show is actually airing (which I do know is a long ways off) and people ask questions.

Try and keep the scope of your answer in line with the scope of what has been revealed in the story so far. One of the best parts about this series is all the twists, reveals, and interconnectedness of the plot and I'd like to try and not ruin that for newcomers. That being said, it can be a confusing story (and we'll see how they handle it on the screen when things can't be spelled out as well sometimes) and people might have questions for sure. We can try and keep the other thread related to discussion on the books and discussion of more spoil-worthy material I think

Now for the long wait...

For those of you who don't know much about the show, some more information has been posted on HBO's site along with some new videos.

Please note that while this book series is classified as "fantasy," the story is definitely not your standard high fantasy story that many consider to be fairly cheesy. It is a very gritty, dark, bloody, and well written story that reflects more on the corruption, drama, and politics in feudal Europe than something like Lord of the Rings. The author is not afraid to kill off any character you might attach yourself to and there is no black vs white or clearly defined good vs evil; you'll find yourself rooting for people on multiple sides of the conflict. If they do the story justice (which I have faith in HBO to do), I think a lot of you will be listing this as one of your favorite currently-running TV shows come next year.

Tyrion is my favorite character in the books, and I'm sure it will stay that way in the TV series with Peter Dinklage playing him.

Also, that picture of Cersei is great. I knew it was going to be hard to hate her entirely on the screen because of her inevitable hotness.

The three pictures of the Lannisters are obvious. I'm assuming that the first picture are Stark boys, and the third is Robert Baratheon.

Is there a set date yet for this series to start, or are we still being fed the "Spring 2011" line?

they have not announced an official start date yet. Filming is almost entirely done now though for season one. I think someone on the inside hinted march/april.

my bad, meant to post the direct link. anyone worried about the quality of this compared to most crappy TV "fantasy" series should be pretty happy after seeing the latest pictures and the trailer. This is turning out to be realllllly nice looking.

awesome trailer. cant wait for this show. i dont know how i should feel about how they should write it. on the one hand, i hate crazy plot twists that stray away from the true story. on the other hand, i hate knowing the whole plot beforehand. i guess its the execution that matters

Looks incredible.

Only nitpick I have is that I seem to remember them describing Ned as having black hair. Maybe I'm wrong but I just pictured him like that.

Also, Robert doesn't look quite badass enough. He's fat now yes, but he was always a champion at the melee (which he loved more than the joust) and was a huge and powerful man.

yea that first picture farther up is jon, sam, pyp(sp? i cant remember).

And I think Robert looks great. It is stressed in the books how he *used* to be and how fat etc. he is now.

Maybe, I always pictured him a guy who was fat but still large and powerful

I think John Rhys-Davies would have been a perfect casting for him (aka Sallah from Indiana Jones and Gimli). But he would need to wear a padded outfit I guess, he's not really fat enough.

Yea he definitely would have been a good cast. I think the actor they cast is going to do well though. I posted this in the Song of Ice and Fire thread when someone else said they didn't picture him as being so fat. These are descriptions from 2 different wiki sites associated with the series:

Quote :
"He is six foot three and immensely fat, with a coarse black beard hiding a double chin and jowls and dark circles under his eyes.""

Quote :
"
A large man, Robert was once a renowned warrior, but grew fat from excessive alcohol and food consumption"

10 minute "behind the scenes" type video with production clips and a lot of discussion on the series. You get to see some characters here for the first time (varys, illyrio etc.) and the stuff they show looks the incredible. The amount of detail shown in the sets and props just looks fantastic.

^^glad to hear that. As a big fan of the books I am really hoping we get several seasons out of this (obviously the whole thing would be my preference but I can't be greedy yet...). In order for that to happen the show will definitely need to get a lot of support from viewers who haven't currently read the books (and possibly have no interest in doing so).

^I think the cast for Tyrion and Arya are my favorites so far. Definitely a few casts that aren't super strong in looks compared to the books but I think overall the casting was solid for this Season 1.

i just read book one in anticipation of this series. great, great book.

1. definitely sam/jon/pyp? in the first pic
2. the blue/white would coincide with the arryn's sigil. lannisters are gold/crimson. could easily be random bannerman though.
3. robert
4. jaime
5. tyrion/mord
6. cersei

very excited for the show to start up. even more excited that HBO is doing it. can't wait.

well the original pilot that was shown to HBO has been changed quite a bit. They recast multiple actors, slightly changed some locations and costumes, didn't have the actual composer for the score that they have now etc. With that being said, I don't even know whether the real first episode is entirely finished yet. It is done shooting definitely since the whole first season finished filming not too long ago, but as far as the score and all the post-production who knows.

While I would enjoy seeing the original pilot at some point (maybe a DVD extra with the series), I'm not really chomping at the bit to see it (at least not before I see the real first episode) since it wouldn't be a true representation of the series.

As far as the real first episode goes, I am super excited to see it but I think I'll wait to watch it live even if it does leak.

Holy shit. Fucking awesome promo. Very intense.

I will admit that tv/movies, when done correctly, can deliver a much more dark and foreboding feeling than words on a page can.
