OK, I looked and didn't see a thread specifically pertaining to this issue- I have an 04 Silverado 1500, and have been using Bridgestone Dueler HT's... it is similar to what came on the truck and what I have replaced them with the last 2 times- problem is that the tires are only lasting about 25,000 miles until they are getting to the wear bars. I want to keep something that isn't super aggressive but won't be like track tires when I'm out on the sand or in the mud (basically I don't want to have it sound like a plane engine driving down the road, but I want some off-road traction). If I'm going to spend close to a grand on a set of tires, I want them to last closer to 40-45,000. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and if I missed the thread I needed to post this in, just post a link in here and i'll put the info in there and get this one locked up


Additional Info: I currently have 265/70/17's on there... I could go bigger (wouldn't mind it either)

I wish I could offer some advice but I know nothing when it comes to truck tires. I am quite baffled that your tires don't last that long though

the more I read, the more I see that the brand that comes stock and I have been replacing with have crappy tread-ware- they say they are long, but all the reviews say that in practice it is waaaay shorter than advertised. It gets a lot of "will not recommend" because of it. At this point, I like the Good Year Wrangler Silent armor, but that will cost a pretty penny to get


I just wanted to see if any of the truck guys had some suggestions

The extra weight makes them wear out quick. Getting 25k-35k on a full size truck seems typical from what I've seen.

michelin ltx or the dueler revo

you can expect ~50K miles out of either a nitto terra grappler or procomp a/t

I guess another question I should ask- could I jump up to a 275 or 285 without any suspension work?

Are you wanting to go taller or wider or both? 275 or 285's would be wider and taller unless you dropped the 70.

The Dueler Revo 2 are nice tires and are generally rated ahead of the BFG All Terrains that everyone loves. Think they were about $750 at discount tire after a $70 rebate for 265/70R16 when I was looking. Ended up getting a set of Wild Country Radial XTX Sports from a friend who has a tire shop for $540 out the door with mounting, balancing and free rotations. No road hazard though. Tires are quiet, ride smooth and my mileage went up ~1mpg since each tire is about 10lbs less than the BFG Rugged Trails that came stock on the Tacoma. Have the same set of tires on the Dakota and they do well on the beach and are ok for an occasional trip through the mud.

Honestly I just wanted to go a bit taller but not really get any wider

I was looking at the Dueler Revo- it said it is a light truck tire- would my half ton classify? I mean, I sometimes do haul a good amount of stuff (putting my "limit" to the test). this is an honest question too- I don't know (i mean, I know it's not meant for something like a 2500HD, but would it be fine on mine?)


and if I wanted to go up to a 275 or 285, what would I need to do to make it work? I have a friend who made too large a jump with tires on his truck and ended up with some rubbing (I will not deal with that) and I don't want to get much wider than I already am (a little wider is ok, but I don't wanna be going crazy with it)

I thought LTX's were damn good (and still are for a smooth ride in a fullsize) but wear life for Nitto Terra 35's on a fullsize ram were about 75k and definitely wasn't from grandma-style driving. They used to be dirt cheap when they first came out but last time I checked they were nearing BFG A/T's in price. I've heard mostly good things on traction and noise about those BFG's if you get over the sticker shock, with occasional griping about their marginal treadlife but usually those comments are from people driving heavier duty trucks 3500/F350/etc.

your silverado is a 'light truck' and load range D tires would be just fine. Get the Revos, LTX, or NIttos and you won't be disapointed. Why the increase in tire size? if you don't need the extra half inch of ground clearance, I wouldn't worry about it.

you can put LTXs and dueler revos on chevy 2500s and F-250s too
