I need to apply for a retroactive withdrawal, but I don't want to go talk to just anyone about it. Does anyone know who at the counseling center is in charge of withdrawals? I want to talk to the person there most able to help me, not just whoever is available.

This link seems to have some information on retroactive withdrawals. It mentions interactions with your adviser, associate dean, a counselor, and registration & records.

Here is some official policy information. It mentions Dean approval. It also mentions that in "emotional problem or crisis" situations possible involvement of independent psychologist/psychiatrist. There are 3 consulting psychiatrists listed on the staff section above, so depending on the situation they may be appropriate to meet with. It talks about readmission stuff too.

I don't have any personal experience with the counseling center so I don't know much, but this is what I could gather by scouring the counseling center & ncsu official policy websites. I hope this helps a little. Best wishes with whatever the situation is.

the way it worked for me (and two other people of whose situations i am aware) was that i went to a counselor (psychologist, not psychiatrist--you have to be referred up to a psychiatrist if your situation warrants). any sessions or paperwork related to the withdrawal went through that person. no matter who you see, you will have to get signatures from your advisor and registration & records, but i wasn't aware of anyone who was really in charge of withdrawals above the counselor.

Yeah I looked at all the stuff on the website, I was just wondering if anyone knew if there was a person in charge of undergraduate withdrawals.

No one at Campus Health is in charge of withdrawals. That's up to your College Dean to decide but any of the campus psychologists can see you and then they send their notes to your Dean for approval.

I applied for and got a W after I landed a full-time job in the middle of the semester after drop date.

I told the dean that I had only started grad school because I had no other choice and really wanted to work. He said no problem and he understood, gave me my W and I've been free ever since, praise the lord!

Depends on how much your department hates you. They can sign off like they are supposed to or create hell for you.

they aren't "supposed" to do anything. typically one semester withdrawal is not that big of a deal, but any more than that, it is a case by case basis, and good luck because usually it won't happen.
