Anyone think this will happen? Seems like a nightmare, going through a full year with only baseball and hockey, and you can't even watch hockey because nobody has Versus. But with both the NBA and NFL CBAs expiring, lockouts are a very real possibility for both sports.

The NFL will not happen, they will find a way somehow. I actually prefer baseball and hockey over football and basketball personally, but I would still not enjoy any major sport missing time due to these types of disagreements.

The NFL is absolutely headed for a lockout or strike. Chances it happens are above 95%.

The owners and players are just miles and miles apart. There is no way a deal gets done before the start of the 2011 season.

The fallout from an NFL lockout would be extraordinary to watch. There are so many pathetic losers whose lives depend on nothing more than their Redskins, Raiders or Cowboys.

Let us not forget how many people were up in arms in response to ONE WEEK of NFL games being postponed after 9/11.

I guess I may be optimistic in saying I believe the two sides will find some harmony, but it just seems like the consequences of no compromise are too devastating to be imagined. (to the average fan at least)

That's what most hockey fans said about the NHL and we all know that ended up. As that was going on, I knew as early as late summer 2003 that the NHL was headed for a devastating lockout.You folks should not underestimate the sheer stupidity of the four sides. The NFL is in danger of becoming the NHL, which was at the height of its popularity when the 1994-95 lockout kept it as the #4 pro sport stateside.

The salaries are too much, but the owners should blame themselves first. I will not be surprised to see one or both leagues reach an impasse in 2012, turning a lockout into a strike (replacement players or breakway leagues may be the new order of things).

The marginal costs of employing the players is too high.

In an economy like this no owners are dying to hemmorhage money so they will be all too happy to shut down the season and live off of their money making businesses.


The players on the other hand have huge liabilities and for the most part no other avenues to make money than with their basketball skills. They can't exactly afford to just go on an extended vacation and resume their careers when they are 40.

All of the leverage is on the owner's side in the NBA and they will demand huge concessions and get most of them. The players will lose in any scenario, its only a matter of time and money they wish to waste in negotiations.


The NFL is the complete opposite it is a mutually beneficial relationship between the players and owners and that's why they will likely get something done with minimal interruption.
