http://sports.yahoo.com/news/louisville-self-imposes-postseason-ban-for-alleged-violations-related-to-prostitution-scandal-050350278-ncaab.html

Probably wishful thinking...but I like to hope that the fact other schools are going ahead and self imposing bans is because behind the scenes they know UNC's stall tactics aren't doing them any favors. If it was working you'd think more schools would be doing it. Or it could just be that other schools are run by the academics and not the basketball program .

I'm actually really surprised by Louisville pulling themselves out of the tournaments.

Just further proof of how much UNC will cheat and doesnt give a shit. Other schools can admit wrongdoing for significantly lesser violations and self impose. UNC isnt willing to even consider it with the worst violations in NCAA history.

looks like Duke is getting on board.

http://www.bluedevilicious.com/ld-adhd-testing-documents-at-unc.html

Quote :
"Now we come to the issue of the LD/ADHD diagnoses. Certainly, the biggest finding is UNC's email showing the 61% incidence of LD/ADHD among FB/WBB athletes. In addition, multiple documents show very high diagnosis rates comparable to studies in the field. To this point, we have not found any study that even approximates UNC's rate. Some studies have suggested that rates could be as high as 20% in the major leagues. But, this is among professional athletes, and such a rate would still be three times lower than that reported by UNC.

So, let's put this in perspective. The general population ADHD rate appears to be approximately 11%, according to the CDC. Assuming a liberal standard deviation of 11% as well (and the normal distribution), the probability of finding UNC's 61% result or higher is less than 0.0003%. In comparison, NOAA reports that the chances of being struck by lightning in an 80 year lifetime are 1/12,000 or 0.0083%. So, you are approximately 28 times more likely to be struck by lightning in your lifetime than to find results such as UNC reported.

This raises serious questions about what is going on at UNC. The questions of athletic eligibility pale in comparison to the student health issues. Medications such as adderall and ritalin can raise the heart rate. UNC's documents show that one student reported having heart palpitations after taking ADHD medicine. He was told, according to the document, that the medicine would "help him with practice.""

Meanwhile this is the kind of sports stories they are covering over here today:

http://chapelboro.com/featured/college-claims-nc-state-forcing-name-change

So the school changed their mascot name two years ago to a name that was legally trademarked and are surprised that another team who owns the trademark is defending it?!? But we are the bad people.

It's trademarked, but it will always look like a dick move on our part because we are a big state school and they are a small school that is getting fucked over.

Are you allowed to be prescribed Adderall and still play in NCAA under their drugs policy? Had not heard of that one til now.

It's definintely a performance-enhancing drug, if it's anything like ritalin (i speak from my skateboarding high school days and my generous hyperactive friend).

From the NCAA's website.. So if a Dr prescribes it you're good

Tyler Hansbrough and Ivory Latta always looked extra "alert" on the court, but they just looked weird...almost like emerging Graves' disease.

I'm guessing Keuka or whatever didn't simply change the name to "Wolf Pack" because they were like "oh shit, didn't think about the whole trademark thing. I bet Nevada would be pissed too, hmmmm....how about just 'wolves'? is that available? ok, let's roll!"

That bullet point is pretty deplorable. It feels like they're parading their African American graduates around like "it sure isn't easy to graduate these folks, but we've gone above and beyond again, y'all."

Didn't see this anywhere...

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/education/article72635327.html

Quote :
"UNC and NCAA attorneys say the athletes’ claims have no standing in the courts, and even if they did, they were filed long after a three-year statute of limitations had expired.

“I think discovery would be a waste of time and resources in this case,” said Lisa Gilford, an attorney representing UNC.

The NCAA contends it has no legal obligation to oversee how classes are taught at its member schools. UNC and the NCAA also said the former athletes had reason to know something was amiss when they took the fake classes, but they didn’t raise objections at that time.
"

In other words, UNC, it's the athletes' fault for trusting you to act in their best interests and "letting" you cheat on their behalf so that you could exploit them for their athletic ability.

What a bunch of worthless human-beings they have running that shit-show over there.

The UNC athlete isn't identified in the warrant."

This was probably Leak's angle the entire time.

Perfect place for this guy to land. Can UNC-CH stop pretending that they care anything about their players well-being?

"Beckman was fired last August after an external review into allegations found he discouraged players from reporting injuries. At the time, athletic director Mike Thomas stated that Beckman was terminated “based on the health and well-being of our student-athletes” and that “the findings don’t reflect the culture we are building with Illinois athletics.” Thomas was fired months later.

Beckman, who went 12-25 overall with the Illini and 4-20 in Big Ten, denied the allegations.

North Carolina coach Larry Fedora and Beckman do have a history as they worked together at Oklahoma State in 2007.

Beckman isn’t the first coach fired for abuse to find new employment. Former Kansas coach Mark Mangino, former South Florida coach Jim Leavitt and former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach all found new employment years after their incidents. But Beckman being back on the coaching scene so soon, especially after such severe allegations definitely raises eyebrows."

"All the time the University of North Carolina has spent digging out from under scandal, all the reforms trumpeted as progress, all the money spent on lawyers and consultants and hired PR guns, and has the university learned nothing?

Based on the fact that nobody stopped Larry Fedora from giving Tim Beckman another chance as part of his football staff – a profession from which he permanently disqualified himself when he mistreated injured players at Illinois – it’s clear there’s still no one minding the athletic store in Chapel Hill.

What’s next? Art Briles as Title IX coordinator?
