New trailer just dropped

Quote :
"Warner Bros has released the first trailer for the Ben Affleck-directed big screen adaptation of the Chuck Hogan novel The Prince of Thieves which is titled The Town.

Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) is an unrepentant criminal, the de facto leader of a group of ruthless bank robbers who pride themselves in stealing what they want and getting out clean. With no real attachments, Doug never has to fear losing anyone close to him. But that all changed on the gang’s latest job, when they briefly took a hostage–bank manager, Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall). Though they let her go unharmed, Claire is nervously aware that the robbers know her name… and where she lives. But she lets her guard down when she meets an unassuming and rather charming man named Doug…not realizing that he is the same man who only days earlier had terrorized her. The instant attraction between them gradually turns into a passionate romance that threatens to take them both down a dangerous, and potentially deadly, path.

The film co-stars Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Pete Postlethwaite, and Chris Cooper.

Gone Baby Gone was pretty solid, I'll probably check this out when it's released on DVD

I know this genre is getting pretty stale, but I'll definitely check this out. I, too, loved Gone Baby Gone and thought he did a good job with that...

I hate when Ben Affleck does something good.

I like to think of Matt Damon as the successful and Affleck as the guy who did Paycheck, Gigli, and Reindeer Games

Say what you will, I respect the guy because he did a shit movie for money and was ballsy enough to call the film Paycheck.

Paycheck really wasn't that bad, certainly not in the same league of terribleness as Reindeer Games, Gigli and Jersey Girl.

To my knowledge this is the only the second movie he's written and Gone Baby Gone was pretty widely lauded as a good movie. I'm definitely going to give him a chance until he writes a stinker. Not a fan of him as an actor but this looks pretty good.

Always wondered how someone stars in a movie they're directing

Its not like Porn where you can hold the camera and still get in on the action

You realize there is a difference between being a director and a cameraman right?

hahah you and i usually agree on most things regarding beer and Entertainment but i feel completely 180 degrees the opposite with this statement. but i think most of that is due to sentimental reasons for Reindeer Games and not film quality reasons I mean Millie Bobeck, come on!

Not in porn, there isn't

But still, its got to be harder to get everyone lined up with proper lighting, blocking, etc. when you're in the scene and not off camera with a better vantage point

The previews for this movie look, AWESOME.

And I'm excited to see Blake Lively dress and act like a little slut. She's ridiculously hot.

Just got back from seeing this. I thought it was pretty good, had a great car chase scene, smart writing, lots of gritty violence and Affleck acted the part without coming off like a douche. There were some genuinely funny moments too (whether intentional or not).

Just got home from seeing this tonight. Very much recommend seeing it. Agree with ^ points. I thought B.A. would come off as more of a douche but did a good job in this film.

Best line in the whole thing was the "Who's car we gonna take"

**SPOILER RESPONSE**

I'm pretty sure earlier in the movie he was talking about leaving and moving to Tangerine, FL. He wanted her to come with him, and so he left the tangerine in the money bag to tell her where he went if she wanted to come find him.

I thoroughly enjoyed it , the car chases were great as mentioned above, the acting all around was very good (though Jeremy Renner could have toned down the crazy a bit), the dialogue was snappy and the comic relief eased the tension a bit so the movie didn't feel draining at all.

I saw it tonight and very much enjoyed it. The dialog throughout the first few minutes was hard to pick up but i chalk that up to a noisy theater full of popcorn munchers, once they settled down it was fine. As already mentioned there was great well timed comic relief to break the tension. It was so natural that you really never felt the flow of the film change. Another fine piece of direction by Affleck. I have a few reservations regarding the end, but i'll save those for later.

I highly enjoyed this movie. The only part that kinda bothered me was Blake Lively's character. I think she overdid it a little. But even that wasn't too bad. Like others said, good comic relief throughout, good acting, good actions scenes, and an overall good story line. And there usually tends to be a lot of ridiculous, unbelievable stuff that happens in movies like this...the only thing that was a little "really? come on" to me, was them being able to get out of Fenway. I can definitely live with that.

Extremely solid movie.

I saw this over the weekend. I did enjoy the acting and the way the movie flowed. I thought at times it was sort of predictable, and the sort of happy ending at the movie was "meh" to me.

But overall, a good movie, and I would recommend it to others. A-

At the end when he was standing out on that dock I looked at my gf and was like, "what is this, the fucking notebook??"

I guess it could have ended that way, or he could have died. Although it was a little sappy, it could have been more sappy if they showed them actually meeting up somewhere in Florida for a teary embrace.

^ Yeah, I'm glad they didn't do that. I also thought when the showed the tangerine in the money bag "I bet that thing would be moldy and gross in real life."

The main reason Heat was better was that Heat was 50% about Deniro and 50% about Pacino, and they showed the home life of both characters and you were invested in each one of them as well as Tom Sizemore, David Palmer, Buffalo Bill and Judging Amy. You got to choose who you wanted to root for, the cop or the criminal.

With this movie, it was 90% Affleck and 10% Don Draper, so everyone was rooting for Affleck to get away. It didn't provide that same moral dilemma, and I think it suffered as a result.

Heat was also like 3 hours long and drags pretty heavily in a lot of spots, The Town was much more taut.

most of ben affleck movies suck. The only good ones are the ones that have him playing a character from Boston.

Saw this again over the holidays...and enjoyed it again.

Felt like it met right in the middle of "believable" and "completely over the top" gun battles and car chases. The car chase was pretty fucking good.

Good characters. Loved seeing Blake Lively slut it up. At first I thought she over-did her character a little bit...then I saw "The Fighter" and the sisters in that movie made me criticize Lively a little less.
