backpacking the Alps...i was going to buy a GPS tagger for my D90, but then realized that i could get a "regular" GPS and just add the GPS coordinates to the EXIF data afterward...and the bonus is i'd have an actual GPS unit that can be used with any camera, not just the D90

dude, get the module for your D90 - I'm WAY too lazy to go back into the exif on each pic; and I think it's awesome to have that data. Several programs to show where you snapped on maps. To me cool And it pulls juice from the camera instead of me having to charge it - good for me since i carry 3-4 batteries and 2-3 lenses when I roam.

I thought they had GPS cables to connect a garmin to the camera without needing the $200 unit.

(edit: found them, for freaking $45, lol. Still cheaper than the D90 unit.)

you don't have to edit each pic...there's software that will match up the GPS data and EXIF timestamp and add to the header automatically

ditto...i'm a data freak

yeah, i think it'll be cool to upload them to flickr/google earth

this is true...given that a lot of these GPS units get 20 hours of tracking to a set (or charge) of batteries, i think i'll be okay...we shouldn't spend more than 20 hours between locations

haha, yeah...and i might do that, instead, but the idea of spending that much on a CABLE makes my soul hurt

...i'm not sure how a map would help with geotagging photos...plz 2 enlighten me? at least, not in any timely fashion
