Pop Filter

Constructed with:

1 of 2 Clamps - $0.70 ea. (5/8" Zinc Plated Steel/Rubber Lined)
1 of 2 Wing Nuts - $0.61 ea. (1/4"-20 Stainless)
1 of 4 Carriage Bolts - $1.02 ea. (1/4"-20 Stainless)
14" of Tubing - $0.19 (1/4" Sprinkler Tubing)
1 Wooden Hoop - $1.71 (4" Embroidery Laminated Wood Hoop)
Small amount of black hosiery - ???/$5.99 per pair
Steel hangar wire

It works well, I probably needed scissors instead of a razor blade to cut the fabric, but held it in place with pins until the hoop was clamped. The total cost for making one was about $11 and ends up being a slight bit cheaper than the cheapest ones listed on B&H before shipping. Seems to work well.

that looks nice

but the time it'd take to build one is worth more than $3 to me

It was my $20 eBay find. It's an EV 664A dual-impedance dynamic super cardioid microphone. Sounds really nice for a first dynamic microphone, and its performance would make me place an RE20 high on the "would like to buy someday" list. Even though I built my amplifier with some really nice Analog Devices ICs and placed it in an aluminum box, the high-amperage, high-voltage overhead transmission lines still put a good amount of 60, 120, and 180 Hz on the line. Maybe I need some mu-metal foil, or at least some small amount of copper foil.
