since the preseason starts this coming Sunday, I think it's appropriate to go ahead and start up the season thread

and what better way to start the thread than by saying that Brett Favre has informed the Vikings that he will RETIRE instead of coming back. This is huge news, and makes the vikings go from Super Bowl contenders to an average team at best. This also hurts the fantasy value of Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson

crazy news, I didnt expect this at all

Kills Rice, Harvin and Shiancoe

But I think it helps AD. Yeah, teams will stack the box to stop him, but they really have no choice but to give him the ball now 25+ times a game, lest they think Tavaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels can lead them to the promised land.

[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 11:03 AM. Reason : and I still say he comes back at some point, be it right before the season starts or in week 6]

if I was a Vikings fan I would be pissed right now, he couldve come out and told them this news back in April and gave the Vikings a chance to go after Donovan McNabb or any other free agent QB out there. Now they are stuck with Jackson and Rosenfels

Yeah, the Vikings have babied him and this is what happens. I think it's kind of lame, but he can't help but end his career on a pick.

I'd still like to see him back.

Brett Favre hates summer camp. I'll beleive he's retired after Week 17 passes.

Cowboys vs. Bengals TONIGHT!!!!!! 8pm on NBC

I dont care if its only the Hall of Fame game, football is back! I'm so happy, this is my favorite time of year, all the teams have high hopes, we get to see a bunch of no name players play their hearts out in hopes of making the team, fantasy football drafts start taking place...AND the weather is still nice outside.

the Panthers play the Ravens on espn thursday night too. There are games every Thursday through Monday for the next three weeks of the preseason. I wonder how many will actually get aired on tv for those of us not fortunate enough to have NFL network (damn you time warner!)

it used to just be the team color right?

I'm on the fence. I think it gets in the way of trying to see where the line of scrimmage is. It took some getting used to.

Used madden NFL 11 to simulate the season. I guess EA games have been good about predicting winners. Picked Blackhawks in the NHL, and Spain in the World Cup.

Has the Patriots and Packers going to the Super Bowl. Not sure if I buy that or not.

So, Dez Bryant bought all the Cowboy wide receivers a pair of the Air Jordan 7 Olympic Editions, but Roy's didn't make it in apparently.

^^ he was waived, not released

he'll clear waivers and be put on injured reserve and then end up on the practice squad once he rehabs

common stuff, they needed to get his roster spot filled with someone else

Rex Ryan felt unfairly judged by Tony Dungy for his potty mouth. hahaha I think Dungy is pretty much above reproach and Ryan can't really call him out on anything.

^^

Yeah Dungy mentors a former dog fighting ring leader who has recently had someone shot at his birthday party. Dungy also stood by and pretended Marvin Harrison wasn't shady as hell. I'm not even going to say anything about his son. I have no idea what its like to keep tabs on someone addicted to pain killers. There may have been nothing he could do.

Point is i'm not sure why he cant handle profanity. He has handled and tolerated much worse.

dunno but that Pats TD was hilarious...two Falcons players smacked the hell out of each other and fell down, and meanwhile Fred Taylor just jogged to the outside and scored...I could've run him down and tackled him (or at least run him down), but he would've been trying harder if it wasnt preseason

So for all the HD nerds, The game tonight is the first one to ever actually be framed in 16x9. No more useless space on the side of the screen.
