Yeah, it's open. My buddy works there in the kitchen, filling the dumplings "with a special chowder", whatever that means...

This is a place I intend to support. David Mao was amazing at The Duck & Dumpling, but he sold his 40% share or something there last year, and has since moved on. I will be extremely disappointed if this isn't popular. As far as the D&D changing format... that's not what I heard. They hired a respectable Asian chef who I think can handle the mantle well.

Split 3 dumpling apps - spicy wonton, half-fried, and marco polo. All were pretty good, though I wasn't crazy about the marco polo.

I got General Mao's chicken and loved it. She got the pad thai and thought it was good.

The guy at the table next to us got the pho and it looked really good.

Went last night and got the braised beef with wheat noodles. I enjoyed this very much. Also tried the hot and sour soup and half fried dumplings and liked both.

Will eat again.

You crazy kids, with your power of suggestion. Well, this thread "forced" me to eat at David's the other night--and I'm glad I did.

I was on my own for dinner that night, so I decided to get takeout. David happened to come up front when I was placing my order and he made sure it was exactly what I wanted. In short, it was the best General "Mao's" chicken and shrimp lo mein I've had in along time--maybe ever. And if you're like me and you tend to make a few modifications, just ask and they'll do it.

I will say that $30-plus for one on a weeknight is rather steep. But thanks for the reminder about this place, Mr. Joshua.

Had dinner there again last night and it was pretty dope.

They need to do something about the techno music. It doesn't fit at all.

Didn't realize this was David Mao's place. I've patronized his restaurants since the Mandarin House at Cameron Village. My dad also, when he was at State. Duck and Dumpling is fucking awesome as well.

Can't wait to try his new place
