Have had a few bad chips flow through recently and got the budget approval to buy a machine (MEMTEST takes too long).
Would like to be able to test desktop and laptop chips. What brand/model do you recommend? 8/10/2010 12:36:43 PM |

my experience has always been that if the first 3-4 tests in memtest don't catch anything then you're probably good to go. Which coincides with about 3-5 minutes depending on your system.
To me a better investment would be a few bench machines on a KVM and a few extra sticks of RAM. If you suspect you have a problem switch out for known-good RAM and see if it fixes it. Take the others and throw 'em in MEMTEST. If you need it to run the full test just let it roll over night. 8/13/2010 5:55:05 AM |

yeah, did some research on machines, not worth it. Going to put that money else where. 8/13/2010 7:31:21 AM |

just curious - what did you look at?
The only machines I've seen worth a flip are like $1000. 8/13/2010 8:23:42 AM |
