i got a 93 Acura legend. was turning sharp in a parking lot and all of a sudden the steering wheel felt like it tore loose. got it home okay but the steering is jerky.

how much is this going to cost?

check the tie rod ends. if they're gone, it shouldnt be more than a couple hundred at a mechanic

I, too, would think something probably went wonky with one of the tie rod ends. If that's the case you're looking at probably a $50 part, an hour of labor (it won't actually take nearly that long, but whatever), and a $60-$75 alignment. So yeah, $200ish.

Then they'll find about $1100 worth of additional work that they'll try to upsell you on. The other tie rod end, your brakes, they'll tell you your coolant is old, blah, blah, blah.

Might I recommend you avoid all that hassle and set up an appointment with zxappeal and Jeepman for the repair then take it to any shop that is running a special for the alignment.

Either Jeepman or myself will be glad to take care of it for you.

We recommend Gower's for the alignment.

haven't been back here in awhile because it seemed to fix itself. i parked it and then got back in it to drive down to midas for a free estimate and it was doing fine, no more jerk. it's like it fixed itself, so i really don't know what's up with it.

but like ya'll said, it's something with a tie rod or the power steering. it still def. needs an alignment cause the inside of my front two tires are balding way before the top of the tire does.

They even make their own gasoline when you least expect it.

check the upper shock mounts. when i first got my integra before i started to mod it i had the same symptoms. i checked everything dealing with the steering and all was fine. one day while washing the engine i noticed one shock wasn't sticking up as far as the other. upon further investigation i found the nut had come loose and fell off. bought a new nut after having it matched to the other side and steering was tight again.

I'd just start by taking it in for an alignment. If something's wrong, they should catch it before aligning, anyway, because they should do a basic shakedown of the steering/suspension to see if there's any play.

it won't cost anything for them to tell you if they find something wrong. if it's something simple, they can just fix it on the spot and go ahead and align it.
